I haven’t washed my hair in 4 months… I let the rain wash it out
A beauty fanatic took the internet by storm after admitting she didn’t use shampoo for 16 weeks, prompting people to comment that it looked ‘gross’.
In general, most experts in the industry recommend washing your hair every two to three days, although this of course depends on your hair type and how active you are.
But stay-at-home mom Lis Daily has decided to stop washing her hair, recently revealing that she hasn’t used the hair care product in four months.
Lis, who calls herself a ‘trophy wife’, proudly showed off her blonde curls on Instagram and left viewers amazed when she explained her alternative to showering.
Instead of using regular shampoos, this gorgeous girl swears by rinsing her locks… in the rain.
Did you know that our ancestors used to stand outside in the rain and have their hair washed? she said in a video.
Lis, who regularly shares content about parenting and lifestyle on her pagehas embraced the so-called “no poo” method: a way of washing your hair without shampoo, using only water.
The theory behind ‘no poo’ – which also involves people using apple cider vinegar or baking soda – is that regular shampoos contain ‘synthetics that strip away too much of the natural sebum produced by your scalp’.
According to the experts of Beard Burn Shampoo”With regular use, these aggressive shampoos create a vicious cycle of rinsing, repeating and ultimately damaging your hair”.
Proponents of the no-poo method believe that shampoo is bad for your hair. However, according to professionals, there is no scientific evidence to support this claim.
Dr. Nicole Rogers, an associate professor of dermatology at Tulane University, said: “For the average person with healthy, untreated hair, there is no evidence that simply washing your hair, as long as it’s with the right ingredients for your hair, will cause damage.”
She added that sebum production is actually “influenced by several things, including hormones, diet and genes” and that “simply washing your hair less often will not slow down production.”
Lis, one of the many who has given up regular shampoo, hasn’t touched her shower essential in months and advises others to do the same.
“Stop pooping for good!”
While she may swear by the ‘no poo’ method, people on social media weren’t so sure. The now viral video has been viewed over 2.4 million times.
One shocked Instagram user said: “It looks so gross I thought it was wet.”
Another agreed, writing that her hair looks “definitely unwashed.”
Someone else joined in the conversation and explained why they felt it wasn’t necessarily a good idea to copy everything the previous generations did.
The 4 Phases of the Hair Growth Cycle
Hair experts at Philip Kingsley shared the four stages of the hair growth cycle: Anagen, Catagen, Telogen and Exogen
Anagen phase:Also called the ‘growth phase’ or ‘active phase’, is the phase in which the cells in the hair root divide most rapidly, causing more new hair to be formed.
During the Anagen Phase, hair grows about half an inch per month [about six inches a year]and faster in summer than in winter.
This phase of the hair growth cycle lasts an average of three to five years.
Catagen phase:After the anagen phase, your hair cycle enters a short transition phase called the catagen phase. This phase marks the end of active hair growth and separates individual hairs from the blood supply and the cells that produce new hair.
About three percent of all hairs are in this stage at any one time and it lasts about 10 days.
Telogen phase:The third phase of your natural hair growth cycle is the telogen phase, a resting period during which hairs remain in their follicles but are not actively growing.
It is estimated that 10-15 percent of your hair is in the telogen phase at any given time.
The telogen phase lasts about three months or 100 days.
Exogenous phase:The final stage of the hair growth cycle, when individual hair strands release from their follicles and fall out.
Now the whole process starts again.
”FYI, the ancestors you mention were very short lived and not known for their health.
“This isn’t a judgement on your hair, I’m just tired of the ‘it’s the way our ancestors did it’ stuff.

Someone who claimed to work in the industry warned Lis about the possible consequences of stopping shampooing.
”Not washing your hair causes a lot of scalp problems. I’ve been a hairdresser for 40 years and not washing is the dirtiest trend. Have fun with your dermatitis.”
