I just got back from my honeymoon – it was great but I’m thinking about divorce

For a newlywed couple, the honeymoon phase ended right after the honeymoon.

Trouble arose in paradise, thanks to a complete stranger who threatened to end their marital bliss.

OVER THE (HONEY) MOON

Reddit user Didn’t know I was picking it told how her love story began to deteriorate shortly after returning from the trip.

She considered ending her marriage “the day we got back from our honeymoon.”

“I got back from my honeymoon today with my husband. We made some friends on the trip, including one who is traveling alone,” she said.

“My husband and I thought she was cool and exchanged social contacts with her. My husband made a few comments that let me know he was checking out her stories during the trip,” she continued.

Although she wasn’t really concerned at first, she became curious and started checking out her new man’s private DMs on Instagram, due to their public phone policy.

It turns out that not finding evidence – or chats – was the real problem, as he had tagged the stranger in a story.

He also admitted to sharing “innocent” messages with her, as well as pleasantries titled “nice to meet you.”

“He deleted the entire thread and at first he tried to manipulate me by saying he didn’t delete the thread,” she said.

Although he eventually confessed to erasing everything, he never wanted to admit to any inappropriate behavior.

Instead, he blamed his “nervousness” for deleting the chat.

“For me this is enough to end it. I have lost all trust because even if he didn’t do anything, I will never know,” she said.

THE PROOF IS ON THE PLATFORM

The whole ordeal left her head spinning with all the possible possibilities for indiscretion.

“And how many other things has he removed that I don’t know about? If it was so innocent, why would he even be nervous,” she said.

“We got married a month ago, this is so embarrassing but I don’t think I can live with not knowing. I want to end it but I’m afraid of my family’s reaction,” she added.

She also shared an update on their wedding chaos.

Although she did not ask him for further proof, her husband showed her screenshots of the traveler who had caused quite a bit of turmoil in the relationship.

“I wanted to keep her out of this because this is embarrassing again and why would I trust someone who I thought was talking to a married man,” she said.

She assumed that the ‘compromising’ messages could easily be deleted, leaving only the clean messages, but she tested the platform herself.

She realized that she could only delete the messages she had sent, not the messages she had received.

“According to the screenshots, there was nothing to see on either part. That reassures me, but why would he delete the chat then?” she said.

She explained that he tried to apologize “a million times” and made romantic gestures, while claiming he became defensive because he knew he “hadn’t done anything wrong.”

SO STAY OR DON’T STAY

She may have been angry, but she wasn’t sure she was ready to end the marriage.

“We had a great honeymoon, but technically this problem didn’t happen until after we got back. My husband is a wonderful man who treats me wonderfully and has never given me a reason to be jealous.”

“I trust the man and I’m in love with him. Otherwise I wouldn’t have married him,” she added.

“Because something like this has never happened before, I’m taking time to think about it.”

OTHERS ROADS IN

She said that many people thought she wasn’t ready for marriage after hearing about the incident, which made her reconsider her “boundaries.”

“I think any inappropriate text to another woman would be grounds for divorce, but so far I have no proof and I can’t just drop my suspicions,” she said.

She had also never had any reason to believe that he could not be trusted.

“My husband is an amazing man who treats me wonderfully and has never given me a reason to be jealous,” she said.

She also defended her open phone policy.

“We live together and do most things together, there is no privacy here,” she said.

Even the bathroom wasn’t sacred to this couple.

Many Redditors advised her to pretend she was able to retrieve the messages after all and then watch his response.

“Yes. Let him talk. Ask the first question and/or statement, then shut up. People start to betray themselves when they hear your silence,” said one user.

Others continued to distrust her husband.

“You got married a month ago, met this woman on your honeymoon and he’s already doing this? I doubt this is the first time, and it won’t be the last,” one reader said.

“It’s probably better to cut your losses now than when he inevitably cheats on you,” they continued.

“Even if the posts were innocent, lying and deleting them is what puts them in a bad light,” said another.

One user had advice for the newlyweds.

“I absolutely agree with this 1000%! But don’t worry about what your family has to say or how they react,” they said.

“They’re not in a marriage where they have to deal with all kinds of things that go through your head,” they added.

“If they are true family, they will support you no matter what they think or feel because again, this is about you, not them. Our female gut doesn’t lie to us! Trust it.”
