I live in my car – it’s so cold in winter but a £22 purchase keeps me warm
Living full-time in a car isn’t most people’s idea of fun, but one woman traveling the US loves her nomadic lifestyle.
Sara took to social media to show off her setup in her Ford Escape, and people had one question: How does she stay warm in the winter?
In a video, Sara showed exactly how she did it with a £22 bargain.
She said: “I’m often asked how I stay warm at night and it’s quite simple.”
Along the way, Sara travels with a portable power station so she can cook on the go and plug in her winter supplies at night.
One of them is her heated blanket.
Sara sleeps in the back of her car, which she piles with fluffy blankets and pillows to stay comfortable.
She then plugs the blanket into her power station and leaves it on all night to keep her nice and warm.
“I just turn it on and it lasts all night,” she continued.
While Sara didn’t reveal where she purchased her specific blanket, there are many options on the market.
Currently, Dunelm is selling electric blankets that cost just £22 and come with three heat settings.
Sara revealed the blanket was perfect for super cold winter nights while traveling.
The clip was posted to her TikTok account @sightsofsara has since gone viral with over 1 million views and 76,000 likes.
People were quick to thank her for the tip in the comments section.
One person wrote: “Even though I would NEVER live like that…that bed looks comfortable.”
Another commented: “This lifestyle doesn’t look easy. Bless you for being so resourceful while doing this!”
5 ways to keep your house warm in winter
Real estate expert Joshua Houston shared his tips.
1. Curtains
“Windows are a common place for the cold from outside to enter your home, this is due to small openings that can let air in, so always close your curtains as soon as it gets dark,” he said.
This simple method gives you an extra layer of warmth because it can provide a kind of “insulation” between your window and curtain.
2. Rugs
“Your floor is another part of your home where heat can be lost and make your home feel cold,” he continued. “On cold days you may notice that your floor is not pleasant to walk on because your feet are freezing.
“Add rugs to areas that don’t already have carpet. This will provide a layer of insulation between your bare floor and the room above.”
3. Check your insulation
Check your pipes, attic space, crawl spaces and under floorboards.
“Loose insulation is great for this, and it is a more affordable form of insulation, with a large bag being picked up for around £30,” explains Joshua.
4. Keep your interior doors closed
“Household members often congregate in one room in the evening, which is usually the kitchen or living room,” says Joshua.
“This means you only need to heat a small part of your home and closing the doors keeps the heat in and the cold out.”
5. Block drafts
Don’t forget to check cat flaps, chimneys and mailboxes as these can let in cold air if they are not properly secured.
“That’s just amazing,” wrote a third.
Meanwhile, a fourth said: “Amazing. Thank you.”
“That’s a good setup,” claimed a fifth.
Someone else added: “Thanks!”
