Celene Francis, a 26-year-old pregnant mother of one who lives in a two-bedroom social housing unit in Rotherham, told how she transformed her front door from drab to fabulous with a £10.95 purchase.

The student midwife and spiritual caregiver health A customer service representative, who regularly shops at retail chains such as B&M, The Range and Home Bargains, explained that a lick of paint had given her door a new lease of life without it costing her too much effort or money.

Celene previously told Fabulous: “I like to live on a budget and especially at this time I don’t have a lot of money to spare.”

That’s why the clever woman took to social media to show off her latest DIY makeover in a clip titled “Front Door Transformation.”

Celene advised her followers: “This is a sign to paint your door for summer!”

She then said, “So I woke up this morning and I thought, okay, I’m going to paint my door.

“I wanted something a little lighter for summer – I’m a bit tired of black now – so I decided to go with Frenchic, the same colour I paint my kitchen in. I had a tin left, so why not?”

Celene confirmed that she used the French paint in the color Salt of the Earth to transform her dark front door.

She continued: “I started with a roller and then I took a little brush from Indy’s paint box and honestly, that worked wonders because I could get into all the little holes with it.

“I thought it would take ages, but it didn’t.

I live in social housing and did my house up for £24 with bargains from B&M – a £3 purchase makes your house look expensive

“I was worried about how it would cover because the door before that was obviously black, but I can’t believe how well it covers.

“I think I did about three coats.”

How can I get social housing?

To apply for social housing, you must complete an application form and submit it to your municipality.

To find your municipality, you can simply use the municipality finder on the government website.

Once you have access to your municipality’s website, you will find guidelines there for completing your application.

After you register, you will likely be placed on a waiting list.

Please note that even if you are placed on the waiting list, this does not guarantee an offer of social housing.

Your local authority can also advise you on how to continue living in your current home and resolve any issues, such as problems with a private landlord or mortgage.

You are eligible for application for social housing if you are a British citizen living in the UK, provided you have not recently lived abroad.

Each municipality has its own local rules about who is eligible to be placed on the housing list for its area, but these rules are based on a system of ‘points’ or ‘bands’.

For example, you will probably be the first to be offered a home if you:

  • are homeless
  • living in cramped conditions
  • have a medical condition that is aggravated by your current home
  • trying to escape domestic violence

Once you are high enough on the municipality’s waiting list, you will be contacted as soon as a home becomes available.

In some municipalities you can submit an application from the age of 18, in other municipalities you can submit an application from the age of 16.

EU workers and their families and refugees may also be eligible.

You will be allocated social housing through a points system. Depending on your housing needs, you may be given low priority.

Once you are high enough on the waiting list, the municipality will contact you about available housing.

There is no limit to how long you will be on the waiting list.

Proudly showing off the finished front door, which she’d decorated with a cheap wreath from B&M, she beamed: “I can highly recommend the Frenchic paint.

“I still need to add new numbers and a door knocker, but I like this color much better.

It didn’t even cost one can. I still have a bunch left

Celene Francis

“It’s much nicer and much lighter for the summer.”

Want to give your front door a quick and easy makeover? Then you can buy this paint for just £10.95 from Frenchic.

A 750ml pot of the paint, which comes from the chain’s ‘The Lazy Range’, costs £21.95, while a 250ml pot costs just £10.95.
