They met for the first time in the 1970s and became oche rivals – they disputed the world of 1980 Darts Championship Final – but also “very good friends”.

According to George, the five-fold world champion “would be good if gold would be about 10 or 10.30 am-this, he would become a complete one *** hole as soon as he had been drunk too much”.

The king of Bling, claimed that Bristow, born in Hackney, would be “rude, arrogant, suspicious and happy to choose a fight with someone .. I didn’t like him when he was like that, nobody did it”.

Yet the cunning cockney never staggered in his strong loyalty towards George, 11 years the senior man, whom he called Bo.

Bristow – One of the greatest pitchers of the sport – died on April 5, 2018 from a heart attack before a Premier League event in Liverpool. He was 60.

Writing Still here! The King of BlingGeorge, 79, said: “The death of Eric Bristow hit me hard.

“He could be a pain in the A *** and we had a number of straight holes over the years.

“But he was my partner for most of the time and we had some great times together.”

During the night Bristow, George died on Merseyside and worked in Shooters Bar and Dinner. The couple had “a little catching up and I got him a Guinness”.

That night George stayed in a Stoke Pub run by Barry Birch, the former driver of Bristow.

And he even looked at “Eric’s flat” less than 200 meters away when he learned the tragic news.

George said: ‘I could not believe the sudden death.

“I couldn’t assume that I could see his flat – the same flat that he had left only a few hours earlier – because I tried to record the tragic news.

“What were the chances of it? I was with him, said goodbye, stoke Stoke and look out of a window at his flat while he was standing next to his former driver?

“We both needed a stiff drink that night. They think that Eric’s heart must have stopped before he hit the ground because there was no blood.

“In his diary, he apparently wrote that he had had bad chest pain.

“Bloody Hell, if that was the case, why didn’t he go to the doctors or the hospital and did he get it sorted?

‘Eric knowing, he probably thought:’ I’ll be a lot of it Guinness In my neck, that will come from the pain ‘.

“Everyone who knew him was aware that he did not exactly led a healthy lifestyle.

I knew him since he was a teenager – and he has never changed. “

“As long as I knew him, he was a heavy smoker, who always rolled his.

“And he would not think about going through 15 or 16 pints Guinness in a day, completing it all with a curry. Nobody’s body can handle that day in, day out.

“Always on the road, working and traveling, meant he always pushed it.

“Although it wasn’t work for him, just a chance to get to the p *** every day.

“I like a drink and a smoke, but there are extremes and Eric pushed them to the limit.

“I would say:” You smoke and you drink too much. “

He said: “I know all about that, Bob. But imagine it, nobody will push me in a wheelchair. If I go, I’ll go like that. Pop’. And he did it too, scared. “

George came across the “articulate Zo-Zo-Zo” for the first time while playing in a BDO event in Margate Has.

He said, “Then we became good friends and he would do everything for me, everything.”

While they toured the country, they would “share prize money”, but there were times when George thought “we would get our heads in it” because of the OTT caprics from Bristow.

During an American tour in 1978, the first time that George went into a plane, Bristow raged the locals by pretending he “his A ***” wiping with the American stars and stripes “before he threw it on the floor”.

George said: “The atmosphere had become really toxic and I was afraid that someone would do something very stupid, such as pulling a gun on him.

“Note yourself, Eric,” I whispered in his ear. ” These guys don’t fiddle over and they have weapons here! ‘

“I would like to say that that was an isolated incident, but it wasn’t.

“That is how he was, always in trouble. But somehow always succeeds in getting it out.”
