But while sorting through all her clothes and accessories for her move to college, she found a bunch of stuff that she could easily sell, and that’s how she started making money.

Macy, from Auchterarder, has since earned almost £1,500 from the second-hand app, as well as an impressive £250 five star reviews.

The language student said, “I Love like clothes and shopping. I think there have been two main things in the last few years that have made me more interested in secondhand shopping.

“The first was the sustainability side of things, where we tried to buy less quickly fashion and clothes that you wear only once and then throw away.

“The second reason is that I think clothes are getting more and more expensive, but you don’t really get the value that they are actually worth.”

After scoring some great bargains, she started selling – and hasn’t stopped since.

And she has had some great successes, including a bargain bag that she sold for much more than the price she paid for it.

The student said, “I found a little leather bag at a thrift store and I wore it once and it was Nice – but when I looked at it again I thought, you know, I’m never going to wear that again.”

The black leather back was made by the Italian company Braccialini and was decorated with beautiful butterflies.

Macy said: “I bought it from the thrift store for £1.50 and I thought I’d just put it on Vinted.

I make hundreds every week on Vinted – I stick to 5 rules, but by re-cropping photos in a certain way, sales skyrocket

“I had so much interest in the item that I sold it for £20.”

“I even had people ask me if I could cancel the order once it sold so they could buy it for more money.

“I didn’t do that of course, that wouldn’t have been fair, but I was surprised by the amount of interest and that I earned £19 from it.”

And would Macy consider reselling more thrift store items?

What sells fastest on Vinted?

According to Vinted bosses:

  • Shoes are the fastest selling category in the past year (2023-2024): especially women’s sneakers, slippers And loafers And slippers for men, sandals And loafers.
  • Swimwear And sportswear are the fastest selling clothing categories. For women, sweaters And coats were the fastest selling items, and for men, shorts were the fastest selling.
  • Sports bags, fanny packs And beach bags are among the fastest-selling bags and accessories for women. Bracelets And belts were among the fastest-selling men’s accessories.
  • Sportswear And costumes are among the fastest-selling children’s clothing.

She said, “It’s definitely something I’ve thought about.

“I think if you know what to look for and you live in an area where you can find a lot of great thrift store finds, it can work – but I also think that many people realize that now.”

But whether she continues her thrift store foray or not, Macy certainly isn’t giving up on Vinted, as she says it’s super easy to use.

She added: “It’s just very user-friendly. More people are aware of the cost of living and want to get bargains and nice things, but at a better price.”
