I may be a steam cover fanatic, but I can’t deny that the Nintendo Switch 2 is still the king of Easy, Fun Gaming

I love everything at the steam deck. It is a (usually) open-source console with the possibility to launch all games on the Steam platform (but not necessarily running), and it became the perfect companion of my gaming PC when I first bought it. However, it was only in my first week with the Nintendo Switch 2 that I was reminded why I kept games in the beginning of handheld games.
There is nothing overwhelming news about the Nintendo Switch 2. Yes, the console is considerably more powerful than the original device launched in 2017, with a larger screen, more comfortable controllers and a generally better design, but it also did not need its own show-stop-new function. Nintendo’s World of Gaming is unique and unparalleled, which uses aspects (portability, co-op-power of the bank and a strong focus on first-party games) that every other company will remain hopeless at its best.
That is why the argument about whether the steam deck has a chance against the Switch 2, moan me. It is not an interest. It is not worthwhile to worry. They can generally be comparable devices, but they have different intentions in the game room.
What matters is to make your experience unique-and the Nintendo Switch 2 is far-reaching in its distinctive character, making both the perfect gadget when entertaining my niece or the ideal party trick when you hang around with friends.
You should read our in -depth Nintendo Switch 2 Review If you are more interested in the specifications, performance and functions. I’m here to tell you why I Like the console.
Switch it on
My dear niece Zoey is five years old – she is hyperactive and a fear, constantly running and screaming, enthusiastic about small things and bored with boring things. She’s the world for me.
And as her only uncle, a lot of responsibility has been put on me! My brother and his fiancé are constantly exhausted by Zoey’s antics, so I am put on ‘Zoey Duty’ when I am in the city or when they come to visit. She is beautiful – but she is easily bored.
For a long time was the best Gizmo I had to keep Zoey busy Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra -The integrated S-Penstylus and well-maintained first-party Penup app offer countless hours of drawing fun for a small child.
The Nintendo Switch 2 hits the same niche. The console took off the console during a family event at the weekend, the restlessness of Zoey was quickly brought under control after I introduced her to the new Mario Kart world. Of course, she is part of this new generation of children who were introduced for the first time Mario Via the lighting film 2023, but just like the Galaxy pen, there is an immediate attraction for children if the gadget is tactile and you can physically touch it physically with it and communicate with it.
Similarly, the possibility is to have the console play at the office, at a meeting room -TV or at a party and at a party and let friends play on it using the removable controllers, such a blessing. It is the best console to have when you play with people personally, and the compact form allows you to take it everywhere.
Even without the deck, the new Joy-Cons are enough that they are no longer too uncomfortable when they are kept horizontal. The display is larger, clearer and also clearer than the original switch, making split screen gameplay on the console only much more pleasant.
The whole movement to break a magnetic affected Joy-Con to put it against each other with a friend personally is infinitely more exciting than a much smaller game on your phone, or even a high-quality game on your steam deck, and play alone. It is a tactile difference and, with its performance improvements across the board, the Switch 2 has the allocation.
I can’t be won with everything
The Nintendo Switch 2 is a fairly well -completed console that knows exactly what it is trying to do, but there are problems here. The most important is the price – the high costs of Switch 2 are in one word inaccessible to many people, and the lack of any tangible difference for the original console would prefer to save money.
Although the console is noticeably larger this time, with a larger display than even that of the steam deck (but still a smaller total size), it is still a bit uncomfortable for adult hands in its standard handheld mode. Especially the bumper buttons just feel a bit too big and have often led to accidental pressing during my use.
On this comment, the possibility for the Joy-Cons of the Switch to quickly change in wireless mice for a precise gameplay at a desk or table, with sensors along the side to follow the movement of the Joy-Con over the table, feels one of the biggest jumps in recent first-party gaming hardware. My only criticism is that it is limited by the same issues as holding the console in the handheld mode – it is a bit uncomfortable for larger hands. Fortunately, the Switch supports 2 mice from third parties.
Most of my gaming on PC, I am also huge against subscription services for online playing, but this is probably a non-issue for many, since there are many other great bonuses online with Nintendo Switch Online.
But my biggest point of criticism remains the dock – the thing that I liked the least about the original switch. I understand that it should be great to support the consoleplay at home, but for my use case I want a more portable solution to project a TV with a friend or family member. Certainly all internal components can be condensed in a smaller form factor, just as we saw with Switch accessories from third parties after 2017? This would be a huge blessing for me, because dragging the big dock is only for the possibility of projecting on a TV is rather annoying.
About gaming and identity
The Nintendo Switch 2 is the ultimate social console. That I can entertain my niece for hours with this gadget, playing games in a more portable form than any alternative console, is so cosmically important to me that I cannot help it, but love this quirky, multifunctional handheld. That I can appear on a house party of introverted people and having fun is of the same importance.
In 2025 there are alternatives for dedicated gamers after greater performance. The steam deck the most prominent (especially for how it can also be used as a co-op console, albeit less. Elegant without removable joy consols), but even the PlayStation Portal can be considered a decent home base.
But none of these will ever reach the all -embracing sparkle of the Nintendo Switch 2. Try if Microsoft would with his latest console, the ‘Rog Xbox Ally X‘, A name that is so comically bad that only Xbox and Asus could have imagined it, it will never be this.
These portable consoles, although cool and capable of a great gameplay, miss the physical attraction that makes the Switch 2 so brilliant. Nintendo has the balance between hardware and software under the knee to make various play-up modes feasible quickly, without irritating OS difficulties (such as in former Windows-based handhelds), streaming dependence (such as the portal and cloud-based services) and Bulky Hardware deputies (as with the steaming depths). Instead of spending a few minutes on linking controllers on the deck, for example, the Switch 2 only requires a fraction of a second from a Joy-Con. It’s seamless.
It is an expensive console, there is no doubt about it, but the Nintendo Switch 2 has taken the mantle of the best casual console on the market – while he is also appointed for more dedicated gamers. It is easy to love, but if you cannot pay it (or justify the high price), I would highly recommend that you still pick up the original switch or switch OLEDBecause they continue to offer a sufficiently capable family gaming experience.
