I met my husband after hiring him as a handyman – ladies, ditch the dating apps

A WOMAN has called on other women to ditch dating apps after meeting her lover in a very unconventional way.

Haley Millstein, 29, and her fiancé Hymie, 35, met when she hired him through a handyman app in 2021 to assemble some furniture.

Before their first meeting, the two were complete strangers to each other, but now they are about to get married.

“I hired him because he looked cute in his picture,” Haley admits.

“I was living in New York City at the time and needed help assembling a dresser.

“He later admitted that he was exhausted and on his way home, but when the request with my photo popped up, he decided to take it because he thought I was cute too.

“I was on my phone the whole time for work when he was putting my dresser together, but he waved me over and said they had sent two of the same parts so he couldn’t finish it.

“He circled the part I needed on the instructions and wrote his number next to it.

“He told me to text him when I got the right part.

“Before he came down, I texted him to thank him and ask if he was single.

“He said yes and we met up for drinks later that evening.”

The couple have been in a relationship since their spontaneous date and got engaged two years later, in July 2023.

“I never expected our relationship to get this far,” Haley tells Fabulous.

“Our wedding song is the acoustic version of Biblical by Callum Scott.

“The lyrics read: I didn’t know I’d fall so hard, then my feet left the ground.

“That whole song describes our relationship perfectly.”

Relationships in numbers: the most common way to meet someone

YouGov has conducted research into how Britons find love, and the data suggests the best way to do so is through work or friends.

  • Through work – 18%
  • Through friends – 18%
  • On the road – 15%
  • Other – 11%
  • Online dating platform – 7%
  • University or higher education – 6%
  • Dating app – 6%
  • Schools – 5%
  • Shared hobby – 5%
  • Family – 3%
  • Face to face at an event – 0%

Nearly 70% of people find exclusive and romantic relationships thanks to platforms like Tinder and Hinge, according to new research from Forbes.

But a growing number of singles say dating apps make them feel less connected.

“I own my own real estate consulting firm and Hymie started his own handyman business,” Haley adds.

“He also still does Task Rabbit in his spare time.

“And it goes without saying that he now builds my (our) furniture for free.

“Ladies, forget the dating apps!

“Try Task Rabbit.”
