And most homeowners trust their neighbors to keep an eye on the security of their home while they are away.

But one mother said she simply can’t do that, because her neighbour ‘borrows’ her garden every time she goes on holiday. She even wants to have her son’s birthday party there.

It all started in the summer of 2022, when the homeowner, who goes by the name granny brown, suspected that someone was using their garden while they were away.

She says: ‘There started to be some movement and every now and then the hot tub would appear.

“To be honest, we didn’t pay much attention to it. With teenagers (who denied using it) things are often moving and we were busy, so we didn’t pay much attention to it.

“Looking back on it now, that’s when things started happening.”

But earlier this year, the family went on a trip and when they returned, a friend told her they heard noises coming from their backyard.

She said that after knocking on the door and no one answered, she decided to enter through the side gate, assuming they were inside because of the noise.

Grandma Brown continued: “They were greeted by a family using our hot tub and garden. They told her we had gone to location X and would be back on date X (both details are correct). They were keeping an eye on the house for us.

“When we got back, we were stunned, asked around, nobody knew anything. We are members of a neighborhood watch Whatsapp group.

“We keep an eye on each other’s cars and houses when we’re away and we let each other know if we see anyone acting strange or if something is wrong.

“We asked this group and no one saw anything except one of the group members who was helping my husband install security cameras and a Ring doorbell and nothing has happened since.”
