I paid for my girlfriend’s ‘MS meds’ – she spent it on makeup and vacations
SABRINA Taylor and her boyfriend Adam cried in each other’s arms as she revealed doctors gave her the sad news she had Multiple Sclerosis.
The pair had first met on Craigslist in 2007 and immediately hit it off over anime and comic books as their romance blossomed.
Adam revealed he always came to terms with being a chivalrous friend – who happily paid for dates and dinners as his main earner.
About nine months into their relationship, Sabrina had moved in when she complained of her back pain.
She claims she went to the doctor, but Adam couldn’t come because he was at work and when he got home, she dropped the bomb.
Shock diagnosis
He told it Channel 4, Love Cheats: “But when I got home, we both sat down on the living room couch. She said something like, ‘They’re pretty sure I have MS.’

“It was terrifying for me because that’s what killed my father’s father. I held her. We cried because it’s definitely something that’s going to shorten your life dramatically. I was worried.”
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a condition that affects the brain and spinal cord. It cannot currently be cured, but treatment can often help control it.
Adam added that Sabrina was already on medication for other health issues and was now worrying the bill also for MS medicine.
In America, health insurance is essential to get a fair price on healthcare, but it seems hers never worked, leaving Adam to pay hundreds of pounds every time she needed a new prescription.
“She was crying. She was panicking and struggling with a bunch of excuses. Finally she says, ‘If we can’t get this. I’m just going to have to kill myself,'” Adam recalls.
He would spend his time talking her out of suicide attempts, providing loans and credit cards to pay for her treatment.
“I was head over heels, and this was someone I didn’t think I would just run into again. If she needed help, that was my duty as a friend,” he explained.
But early in their relationship, red flags were noticed by friends.
Rain said: “Aaron and Sabrina seemed happy, but he didn’t seem to have a voice, if that made any sense. He was always quiet and, you know, she was always like, she was going to grab him and take him somewhere. was always paramount.”
Another friend admitted that Sabrina always had expensive taste: she always went for high-quality makeup and clothes and did not settle for less.
Identify signs of financial abuse

- Forces you to withdraw money or get credit in your name
- Ensures you transfer control of your accounts – this may include changing your login details
- They cash your pension or other checks without your permission
- Adds their name to your account
- It pressures you to change your will in a way you don’t like
- Offered to buy groceries or pay bills with your money, but takes it and doesn’t use the money as you agreed
- Asks you to prove what you spent your money on
- Prevents you from accessing your bank, loan or credit card accounts
- Determines what you can and cannot spend your money on
- Set up direct debits from your account to pay bills that don’t belong to you or to pay for goods and services you haven’t purchased
- There is pressure on you to ensure that your benefits are paid into a bank account that you do not have access to
- It puts pressure on you to withdraw, transfer or stop pension benefits

Money moves
Ultimately, Adam landed his dream job at Nintendo, with his new role and Sabrina’s promise that she was entitled to £70,000 from her grandfather’s inheritance. Within a few months, he felt comfortable financing Sabrina’s lifestyle and medication.
The demand grew with my supply.
Adam
But with Adam on a better salary, Sabrina’s financial needs grew, including Interferon to help with her MS, which amounted to around £700 a month.
Adam didn’t think twice about helping his girlfriend and was happy when his salary doubled, but Sabrina once again needed more from him.
“The demand grew with my supply. Within a month or two we were literally living paycheck to paycheck again,” Adam added.
“Sabrina put a lot of pressure on me to buy a new car. It couldn’t be a used car, but it had to be a very specific model. She says she needs a house.”
When the date arrived for Sabrina to receive her inheritance, no money showed up.
A friend said she was so worried about Adam leaving that she threatened to harm herself several times – the stress of caring for her meant he lost his dream job.
She then approached their friends for loans and money, using Adam’s name as a surety to pay them back without his permission.
Ultimately, friends dropped the couple due to Sabrina’s pleas, leaving Adam completely broken.
The last straw was when she asked to end the relationship because she had already kissed one of her friends behind his back.
The truth comes out
That’s when Adam met Keo one night while he was at a party. Sabrina sent him a series of text messages claiming she was going to take her own life again.
When he arrived at her apartment and she was out to dinner with friends instead, Adam realized he had been played the whole time.
He said, “The house of cards just fell apart.”
Adam decided to do some research online into an MS community, inquiring about the medications Sabrina had him paying for when people revealed they had nothing to do with MS.
Adam decided the relationship was over and Sabrina moved out next day, but it wasn’t the end of their story.
Instead, she told everyone that he was emotionally and physically abusive, leaving Adam alone apart from Keo.
The couple soon married and decided they wanted a child, but the reality hit them that his guilt would mean they couldn’t and the couple divorced.
Keo said: “She took the future which I thought I would have with this man. The emotional and mental impact this had on Aaron carried over into our marriage.
“I saved him from this relationship, but I sacrificed ours.”
Unpacked
Things came to a head when friends, like Rain, started a fundraiser to get money for Sabrina’s MS online.
Dozens of people, including Adam, said she was a cheater and her friend decided there must be some truth to it.
Rain revealed: “I was in communication with friends Japan who documented all the things that happened while she was there.
“Sabrina claimed she spent the day contemplating throwing herself in front of a high-speed train in Japan, when in reality she spent the day in Disney Tokyo.
No amount of money will ever regain the trust I had in other people.
Adam
“While begging for money from people in the United States, she spent $1,000 on toys and items to take home.”
Adam was then contacted by the FBI who were investigating Sabrina, where she was charged with four counts of bank fraud.
They eventually found between eight and ten people she had defrauded, taking more than £500,000 and jailing her for just 27 months.
It was revealed that she had spent most of the money on comic books, makeup and trips to Japan and Korea.
“Financially, the final total was just under $100,000. I can’t put a price on the emotional toll,” Adam said.
‘Next week I could win the lottery and settle all my debts. No amount of money will ever regain the trust I had in other people.”
