I painted my house gray, but now I really want to go back to ‘boring beige’
IT was the home trend that everyone seemed to fall in love with.
Velvet sofas, ‘Live laugh love’ signs and grey EVERYWHERE. Many people cite cleaning guru Mrs Hinch as their interior inspiration.
But a woman who painted her home grey when it was popular now regrets her decision and wants to return it to ‘boring beige’.
“Okay, who else painted their entire house gray and now hates it?” professional cake baker and mother of five Lucy began her TikTok video.
“You know it was a thing, right?
“When Mrs Hinch came into the world and everything went grey, we all painted our houses grey.
“I literally hate it right now.
“I want to change it all.
“I want to make every room boring beige again.”
Sitting on the couch in her living room, Lucy said she got “lucky” because her couches turned out to be beige.
“These are the ones Mrs Hinch got because I was obsessed with them, right?” she continued.
“And I actually thought they would be gray, but they’re not. They turned out beige.
“I was a little angry because my house was gray, but now I’m thankful that it’s beige!”
While it wouldn’t be too difficult to change things up in her living room (all she had to do was change the wainscoting, buy a new rug, and hang some new artwork), it was a different story in her kitchen.
“That’s going to be difficult, because there are gray tiles and gray cabinets,” she sighed.
“But honestly, I’m thinking about just buying a whole new kitchen.
“I’ve painted the cabinets four times already, but they’re still peeling.
“So I’m going to do one room at a time, but is anyone else having this problem?
Trends that interior designers hate
IF you want to make sure your home looks glamorous, these are the trends interior designers hate.
NO YELLOW: According to Bilal Rehman, yellow paint in the bedroom is absolutely a no-go.
He said, “If you want everyone to know you’re a horse girl, yellow is perfect for you.”
UNSUBSCRIBE: Kelly Hoppen shared her honest opinion about the Live, Love, Laugh signs.
The interior design professional explains: “Another complaint of mine – Live, Laugh, Love – those wooden things that are on bookshelves and floating shelves, that’s so 10, 12, 15 years ago.”
NO GREY YAY: Julie Provenzano explained that gray interiors are too common.
She stressed: “We took something good and exaggerated it to the point where it now feels copy, paste and boilerplate.”
“Gray is not for me anymore!”
“Anyone else in the grey club hating it right now?” Lucy captioned her video.
“Me!!” wrote one.
“Now that we changed the color of every room to Egyptian cotton, it feels much warmer.”
“Yes, I do. Luckily I don’t have gray furniture or flooring, so I just have to change the color of my walls,” sighed another.
To which Lucy replied, “Oh, that was luck.”
“My floor is completely gray!”
“Yes, I have changed mine little by little. My neighbors even painted the outside gray,” said a third.
Lucy replied, “I never thought I’d hate it, but I’m totally over it.”
“I was a real estate agent and I’ve seen enough gray houses to last a lifetime,” admitted another.
“Just don’t follow trends,” advised another.
“In 2 years you’ll hate beige!
“Look at colors and styles on Pinterest.”
“I’ve always been a very ordinary girl,” Lucy replied.
“The children’s rooms are colorful, but I am very sober myself.
“But if I know you, I’ll be tired of it in a few years, that’s true!”
“We painted part of our house gray, I hate it!” said someone else.
“It feels like such a depressing color!
“I’m gradually moving into beige – creams, whites, golds and woods are so warm, bright, expensive and beautiful.”
