I shifted a stone in baby weight on Ozempic, but then I stopped and the results were devastating

Artemis Bayandor was initially delighted with the weight loss success she had with the blockbuster weight loss shot Wegovy.

The 41-year-old lost just over a stone (around 7kg) of her stubborn baby weight in six months in 2021.

But when she had to stop taking the shot in April 2022 after a price increase, the Illinois flight attendant said she not only ended up regaining the weight she lost, but also gaining weight than when she started.

Within 18 months she had gained two kilos and was 6 kg heavier than before she started injecting.

Ms Bayandor said her appetite became “insatiable” when she stopped taking the drug, causing her to constantly snack and take larger portions at dinner.

“As soon as I get off it, I realize, ‘Oh no, this little portion isn’t enough. I need more. I’m still hungry,'” she said.

And she’s not the only one. Experts recently highlighted that the majority of people who stop taking slimming pills such as Wegovy, which contains the same ingredient as Ozempic, regain two-thirds of the weight they lost within a year.

Artemis Bayandor, 41, from Illinois, says she is now (right) about 20 pounds heavier than before taking Wegovy (left), which contains the same ingredient as Ozempic. She lost 15 pounds while taking the drug for six months, but quickly regained all the weight and extra weight.

TikTok star Remi Bader experienced a similar phenomenon, stating that she gained back “double the weight” she lost while taking Ozempic.

Bader, who had previously sought treatment for binge eating disorder, also explained how her binges worsened after quitting the drug.

Another celebrity who has not experienced successful weight loss with the drug is comedian and actor Tracy Morgan, who revealed earlier this year that he had ‘eaten’ Ozempic and gained 40 pounds while taking it.

Many patients, as highlighted by experts, have also reported regaining some of the weight they lost.

One of them is Meredith Schorr, a nurse in Arizona. The 25-year-old had gained three and a half stone during the Covid pandemic.

She switched to taking semaglutide after diets and exercise failed and lost the pandemic weight she gained in 11 months.

However, after stopping the medication to try to conceive, she found she gained back almost a stone of the weight she had lost.

Sam Tejada, 36, from Florida, told MailOnline that he lost just over four stone while taking semgalutide and tirzepatide, the active ingredient in the slimming jab Mounjaro, last year.

Mr Tejada, who works in the wellbeing industry, dropped to just under 13 stone while on the drugs.

But within a month of quitting, he noticed his weight starting to gain again.

However, he said he had managed to maintain the weight by increasing his exercise regime.

Numerous studies, including the original studies that led to the drug’s approval in the US and Britain, have shown that patients regain the weight they lost when they stop taking the drugs.

This has raised concerns that patients will have to take the drugs for life to keep the excess pounds off.

Experts have also noted that those who came off the drugs showed several indicators of poorer health, including higher blood pressure and cholesterol, as well as an increased risk of heart disease.

All fat sticks currently on the market work by mimicking the hormone GLP-1, which makes people feel full, which reduces their appetite and therefore promotes weight loss.

Although mainly studies on weight loss drugs suggest the jabs also have a range of other benefits, including reducing the risk of heart attack, stroke And kidney disease, and recently even some cancers.

However, the shots have also been linked to a host of side effects that vary in both frequency and severity.

Reported problems include nausea, constipation, diarrhea, fatigue, stomach pain, headache and dizziness.

Bizarre symptoms, such as hair loss, have also been reported in some patients.

Fat-burning shots have become the favorite weight-loss shot of celebrities included Opra Winfrey, Elon Musk, Sharon Osbourne, Chelsea Handler And Robbie Williams.

Although it is a potential ‘game changer’ in the fight against obesity, there is growing concern about the number of healthy weight and underweight patients requiring emergency care after taking the jabs in a bid to become ‘beach body ready’.
