Each large jewel was cut into a different shape, such as squares, circles, hearts and opals.

The customer explained that each ‘lucky find’ only cost him 50p.

However, when he had the jewelry appraised, he discovered the true value of the pieces.

“[They] turned out to be 14 karat gold,” the Facebook user told other members of the group.

He added that “unfortunately the stones were cubic zirconias” and not real diamonds.

Cubic zirconias are processed gemstones that resemble diamonds in appearance.

Most stones are clear or white, allowing manufacturers to color them with dyes.

However, the man indicated that he was still in a cheerful mood after selling the items.

He said he took the items to two different jewelers and accepted the highest bid.

“I’m not complaining as I exchanged them at the jeweller for £280!” he said.

His Facebook colleagues shared their thoughts on the win in the comments.

Why Gold Is One of the Best Bargains Right Now

Financial experts from Money Week reported on the current value of gold.

They explained that the use of the metal in commodity trading has increased in some areas.

This in turn has contributed to the further weakening of currencies such as the US dollar.

Gold’s current high value can be attributed to a combination of lower interest rates, a weaker dollar and strong demand from central banks.

This has created a very favorable climate for gold at the moment.
