I spent £11,000 to get a Barbie nose but trolls say I look like The Grinch
AN INFLUENCER who earned £11,000 to get her dream ‘Barbie’ nose was left shocked when cruel online trolls claimed the operation made her look like THE GRINCH.
Sophie Bow has always been insecure about her nose and claimed people would often comment on its size, saying she looked like Loose Women star Stacey Solomon.
The 31-year-old, who appeared on BBC’s Snog Marry Avoid when she was 18, said she often wished her nose looked like those of other girls online.
In February 2022, she spent £7,000 on a nose job in Britain but was unhappy with the results and described her hooting as ”drooping”.
Sophie also claimed that she noticed scar tissue on the outside of her nostril that resembled a mosquito bite on her nose, which made her even more dissatisfied with the results.
Two years later, after her nose had completely healed, the mother of one flew to Istanbul, Turkey, in September 2024 for revision surgery.
Delighted with the results, Sophie shared a video on TikTok about her operation, which received half a million views.
But she was left embarrassed when she was inundated with cruel comments from trolls who compared her new “pig” nose to that of furry green grump The Grinch.
Others compared her new pixie tip lift look to ex-glamour model Jodie Marsh’s nose.
Sophie, from Dartford, Kent, said: “I’m really happy. In the comments the majority of people say it looked better at first, but obviously no one sees the results until six months to a year later.
“It’s normal to look very cheerful and a bit piggy, like The Grinch.
“It must have also been the angle I filmed my nose in. I was shocked, I looked in the mirror and thought, ‘Oh my God, does it look like this?’
“When I had swelling on my top, it might look a bit like this [The Grinch] but it’s normal, it’s the process. It’s called edema and it will last for a while.
“It’s dropped a lot more now, but where I’ve turned to the side it sticks out, so that’s why it gives the effect of looking like The Grinch.”
Sophie responded to the comments in another video, explaining that her nose was still swollen and labeling some people as ‘mean’.
In the video she said: “Well hey, at least I fit into the Christmas theme this year and I love Christmas so that’s a bonus.”
Sophie opted for revision surgery in Turkey because she was disappointed with the results of her original rhinoplasty, which she said left her nose ‘droopy’.
She left for Turkey at the end of September 2024, paying £4,000 for her operation, flights and a five-night hotel stay.
Sophie said: “My nose used to be quite big for my face as I have quite a small face and it stuck out quite a bit.
“It looked very droopy at the tip. It just didn’t suit my face and I was always dissatisfied with it from a young age.
“I used to get comments like, ‘You have a big nose,’ which I hated.
“People always said I looked like Stacey Solomon, but my nose was clearly ‘worse’ than hers.
“I used to get comments from people in real life and on social media. I always got comments from people.
“I had my first rhinoplasty done and after a month it was slightly deformed. The surgeon said this was due to the scar tissue in my nose. It wasn’t a very good nose.
“After my surgery, my nose changed and he continued to give me steroid injections for months, and then I developed more scar tissue on the outside of my nose that looked like a bite.
“I let it heal completely, but it looked very droopy, it just wasn’t the best nose. I thought, ‘I’m going to have to get this done again, I can’t look at this in the mirror anymore.’
“I wanted a certain look. I wanted a Barbie nose, that’s why I went to Turkey.”
Despite the trolling she received, Sophie is happy with the initial results, but admits it remains to be seen how it will ultimately turn out.
Sophie said: “I’m happy [with it]. It is still swollen, it will take some time, it still looks a bit irregular.
“Every day looks different – your emotions go up and down, it’s a roller coaster. It’s a waiting game. It’s not easy.
“I haven’t had any problems, I’m now six weeks post-surgery.
“I didn’t do it just because other people didn’t like it. I did it for myself, for self-confidence and for my work, social media, photos.
‘It’s not nice to see [mean comments]. I feel like I was pretty strong throughout the whole process, I didn’t really let the comments get to me.
“People commented on the way I looked, my lips, my chin, my whole look. When people brought my look into it, that affected me more than anything.
“It was quite difficult and disturbing to read. When I posted the video, I didn’t think I would get all these horrible reactions.
“I see the funny side of it now, I didn’t let it get to me as much as I thought.
“I would have been more upset if people said my nose looked big, but a lot of people said they couldn’t see a difference either, which I hated.”
Where in Whoville did you have that done?
