I spent £8,000 getting rid of my double chin with a painless procedure that involved sucking fat through a freckle-sized hole. I am shocked at how defined my jawline is now.

When it came to insecurities, my double chin was at the top of my list.

The stubborn, flabby bag of fat under my chin had become the center of my attention and I was determined to get rid of it.

I had experimented with fat-dissolving injections, radiofrequency sculpting treatments, a natural 37-pound weight loss, and non-surgical fat freezing, but none of these treatments proved particularly effective or permanent.

During my search for more alternative methods, I came across Beverly Hills cosmetic surgeon Dr. Aaron Rollins and his recently opened Elite Body Sculpture clinic on Harley Street in London.

The clinic’s patented treatment, developed by Dr. Rollins, is known as AirSculpt. Designed to permanently remove excess fat and tighten skin, it’s body contouring without scalpels, stitches, needles or general anesthesia.

The procedure is similar to liposuction in that the fat is permanently removed. However, according to Dr. Rollins, that is where the similarities end.

“AirSculpt was invented as an ‘anti-lipo,'” he says. “Lipo is done with a large, sharp, cheese-grater-on-a-stick-like instrument. It scrapes away the fat and in the process can damage flesh like muscle and skin tissue.

“It’s brutal and doesn’t always deliver the results or skin-tightening effect that patients are hoping for.”

Like any aesthetic procedure, AirSculpt does not claim to be risk-free. Rare complications include fat embolism, uneven results and numbness, but these risks are minimized thanks to the more refined technique.

“This procedure involves robotically removing fat through a 2mm hole – the size of an average freckle,” Dr. Rollins says.

“We’re picking one fat cell at a time, without affecting other areas. It’s like picking berries off a bush, instead of using a Weed Whacker.”

Another aspect that makes this treatment unique is its ability to firm the skin.

“In addition to removing fat, it also has an incredible skin-tightening effect in the exact same spot,” Dr. Rollins explains. “With lipo, the skin is not tightened unless other treatments are used.”

That convinced me and I quickly signed up.

The day of my procedure came quickly. After a thorough pre-assessment with the plastic surgeon who would be performing my treatment, Dr. Omar Tillo, I was ushered through the beautiful clinic to be marked and numbed with a local anesthetic.

After a few virtually painless injections, Dr. Tillo used a small piece of skin to create three holes to serve as access points: one under my ears, one on either side of my jaw, and just under my chin.

A thin cannula is then inserted under the skin at each access point. This probe tightens the skin and melts the fat cells before the AirSculpt device is inserted to suction them out.

It’s a strange feeling to see your own fat passing through a tube in front of your eyes, but if you’ve been trying to lose it for years, like me, it’s also incredibly satisfying.

During the treatment I felt strong vibrations on my jawline, but no pain.

I happily listened to my Beyoncé playlist and could have used a snort of laughing gas if I felt the need to relax a bit more. But before I knew it, Dr. Tillo was done.

In just 30 minutes it was over. No stitches, no antibiotics and no discomfort.

I was sitting up and given a compression garment to minimize bruising and swelling. After eating and drinking, I was allowed to go home and rest. In total, I was in and out of the clinic in less than three hours.

I slept with an extra pillow for a night or two to minimize the swelling and managed the pain with paracetamol and ibuprofen. But I don’t want to sugarcoat the truth: waking up on a blood-stained pillow was terrifying, even though I had been warned.

Unlike traditional liposuction, which places drains to drain excess fluid from the body, AirSculpt leaves the incisions open and heals into freckle-sized scars.

What surprised me was how easy my recovery was. I slept and ate well, and kept my compression garments on, I also kept my blood pressure stable, and worked from home.

Two days later I felt fine, although I was still swollen. The minimal bruising I had disappeared by day five and I didn’t need any painkillers from that point on.

In the second week I saw the first results and I was overwhelmed: a defined chin slowly emerged.

I am now a year post procedure and I am still shocked at how defined my jawline is. I look slimmer and my side profile is chiseled.

My self-confidence has also increased tremendously. I just wish I had had the treatment sooner instead of wasting time and money on other treatments.

I can’t avoid the fact that AirSculpt is an expensive treatment, but for me it’s worth it.
