Sera, a DIY enthusiast from the UK, shared on social media how she gave her filthy patio a huge makeover, leaving many amazed.

Instead of spending money on new patio tiles, Sera simply gave them a fresh new look with a lick of paint.

She advised, “Paint with two coats of masonry paint.”

Sera confirmed that she used Sandtex Ultra Smooth Masonry Paint in Cornish Cream to freshen up her patio tiles.

If you want to try this, you can buy wall paint from B&Q for just £10.

After giving her tiles a fresh coat of paint, Sera used fixing sand as a grout.

Sera used Sika Paving joint filler sand, which is suitable for all types of paving stones and is resistant to wind, weeds and ants.

You can buy the setting sand at Wickes, but there are also cheaper alternatives available at B&Q.

Sera brushed the sand into the joints of the terrace. Once it has hardened, it cannot be washed away.

After this she confirmed, “Wet the sand and let it harden.”

So much better

Someone said, “Looks great.”

Another beamed: “I love it.”

A third commented: “Looks so cute.”

You’ll regret painting that. You’ll have to do it every year to keep it looking good.

While someone else praised: “So much better.”

However, not everyone was equally positive about Sera’s decision to paint her patio tiles.

One user wrote: “As a decorator, don’t use masonry paint on a floor that gets a lot of foot traffic. It won’t last long and that’s a fact.”

How to repair broken patio tiles

The paving specialists at Simply Paving told Fabulous how to repair broken patio tiles without too much hassle.

The experts advised: “If you have a loose paving slab, it’s unlikely you’ll be able to lift it straight up by hand. Instead, you’ll likely need a hammer and chisel to pry the paving loose from your patio.

To remove loose tiles without damaging your tiles, carefully chisel away the mortar around the tile with the chisel and rubber mallet until the tile is completely loose.

“Then slide the shovel into the gap created by the mortar and pry the tile loose from the patio.

“As you lift the shovel, place a short piece of wood under the shovel. This will act as a lever, making it easier to do the job and protecting the slab underneath.

“When the paving starts to give, place the cylindrical wood underneath and roll the slab out of the patio.”

A second added: “You’ll regret painting that. You’ll have to do it every year to keep it looking good. But the more paint you add, the thicker it gets.”

A do-it-yourselfer pleaded, “No, no, no, don’t paint the stone.”

Meanwhile, another TikTok user criticized: “Paint wears off and gets thinner in spots, after which it looks dirty.”

Sera responded to this, writing, “I did this a year ago and it still looks great, but I imagine it will need some touch-ups over time. But that’s just like painting.”

Sera also confirmed: “I pressure washed it this year and it still looks great.

“It’s been going for over a year now, so I’m happy with it.”
