She said she bought the runner for the stairs online.
The Excellent quality sisal herringbone stair runner with black cotton border is currently available for £129.99 on Etsy
The first step was to remove the old carpet and inspect the subfloor.
The DIYer decided to reuse the material and cut it to fit under the runner.
She then sanded the steps and filled in any cracks and holes she saw.
She decided to skip the primer and applied two coats of paint to the stairs.
“I then started at the landing and secured the runner with a small peg in each corner and carpet tape on each side, then worked my way down,” she explains.
“I ran the runner over each step and pushed it firmly into the step below to make sure it was secure enough.
“[I] used carpet tape on the underside of the vertical portion of each step and along the sides of the flat portion of the stairs.”
The Redditor said she repeated this process “all the way down” before trimming the runner at the end so it would fit under the edge of the bottom step.
“I used pins and not staples because staples work better on this type of material because the pile is not as fluffy as a carpet,” she explains.
