I tried a device for my cold feet that costs 2 cents an hour and works within 10 minutes
I have been known to wear three pairs of socks to keep my cold feet warm in the winter.
And it’s even more of a nightmare if you try not to turn the heating on.
But when the temperature outside drops dramatically, as has been the case lately, even piling on fluffy socks isn’t enough.
So I decided to try out a new gadget – one of the latest releases on the self-heating market – that claims to work in just 10 minutes.
It’s not expensive either, with the Vonhaus Electric Foot Warmer costing £29.99, although it’s currently on offer for an even more reasonable £19.99.
It also won’t add any extra costs to your bill, as it only costs 2 cents per hour to use, according to the manufacturers.

The warmers are also said to have holistic benefits, such as improving circulation, promoting sleep quality and relieving foot pain.
My toes felt good and nice and warm after just 10 minutes

And since I suffer from psoriatic arthritis – which is especially bad in cold weather – I wanted to see if it could actually help with my pain.
So after sitting down at my desk to work from home on a freezing, dark morning, I tested the foot warmer for the first time.
When I slipped my feet into it, it was immediately comforting thanks to the cozy microfleece lining.
It is this part that is also removable and washable, if you ever want to do a quick clean on a 30 degree program.
When I turned it on, I immediately set the temperature to the highest setting: level six.
And within just a few minutes I began to feel the effects of the device in action, as the cold began to leave my feet.
After 10 minutes they started to feel good and really nice and warm.
When it got warmer, I turned the temperature down – which was easy to do thanks to the included remote control.
But don’t worry if you get so cozy that you forget the heating is on.
There are protection features against overheating and overcurrent, and it also shuts off automatically after 90 minutes.
Once I turned the heater temperature down, it was harder to feel the benefit – but that may be because I started it at the maximum.
How you can save on your energy bill
SWITCHING energy suppliers can sound like a hassle – but luckily it’s quite easy to switch energy suppliers – and save you a lot of money.
Look around – If you’re on an SVT deal, you’re probably throwing away up to £250 a year. Use a comparison site such as MoneySuperMarket.com, uSwitch or EnergyHelpline.com to see what deals are available to you.
The cheapest deals can usually be found online and are fixed deals, meaning you usually pay a fixed amount for 12 months.
Switch – Once you find one, all you have to do is contact the new supplier.
It helps to have the following information, which you can find on your invoice, on hand to give to the new supplier.
- Your zip code
- Name of your existing supplier
- Name of your existing deal and how much you payA current meter reading
Your current supplier will then be notified and the switch will start.
It will take no longer than three weeks to complete the transfer and your delivery will not be interrupted during that time.
I also tried the warmer in bed on a chilly evening.
But I found this more difficult because it’s shaped like a giant boot that you put both feet into, so you have to keep your feet in one position to feel the benefit.
So for someone like me who takes a long time to get comfortable in bed, it’s definitely best kept under the desk.
It would also make an ideal Christmas gift for an elderly relative, especially given its ease of use and the added benefit of its automatic functions.
All in all, I will definitely use it again, and I think there will be arguments about who gets to set it up in my house in the future.
A winter must-have!
