I tried a viral hack that promised to save hundreds of pounds on my B&M store, but it was a scam
B&M has always been my go-to, especially when I need a little retail therapy.
Who doesn’t love a good bargain, right?
For me, the perfect Saturday afternoon often involves a leisurely stroll through my local B&M, looking for deals and enjoying a bit of shopping.
It’s pretty clear that I’m a fan too.
Every time I scroll through TikTok, B&M broadcasts pop up, which is how I discovered their B&M app.
The app contains a handy barcode scanner with which you can check whether an item has been discounted.
People on social media claimed they had saved over £100 in one store, and I couldn’t believe it.
Even B&M itself said to use the app to find hidden discounts.
So I decided to give it a try and went to my local B&M store.
It’s hard to find something I don’t like in the store, so as soon as I walked in I started scanning everything.
From the food aisle to the house section, the garden supplies and even pajamas, I scanned away.
However, I quickly started losing momentum as I could hardly find any discounts.
I first found a makeup brush holder that cost £2 on the shelf, but on the app it was £1.
Then I came across a glass coffee mug that cost £2, but the app said £1.50.
I also found a lovely white mirror in cream, which cost £4 on the shelf but was reduced to £2 on the app.
And that’s it for the home part.
While I was happy with any kind of discount, I was disappointed with how little it was and how long it took for me to come across it

After an hour of trying in that section, I moved on to the Christmas decorations section, which is filled with sparkling goodies.
From baubles to lights and stockings, I was in heaven and really hoping for big discounts.
But again, I was left disappointed, even though I did get some discount. I came across luxury sparkly baubles with a sticker on them that said £5, but on the app it was £4.
Then 20 silver sparkly baubles for £5, but on the app they were £4.
I also found a six pack of baubles in the store for £5, but on the app they cost £4.
Then a pack of nine large sparkling baubles which cost £12 in store but £10 on the app.
I also came across a pack of 20 “Simply Christmas Luxury Baubles” in a blush colour, which cost £5 and on the app £4. Then a cute glitter bow which cost £4 in the store and £3 on the app.
All told that’s a total saving of £10.50, and it took me two hours to find it.
I prefer to see it as a nice surprise if there is a discount, but I don’t have high expectations.

While I was happy with any kind of discount, I was disappointed with how little it was and how long it took for me to come across it.
I wouldn’t recommend going to B&M just to look for discounts, but any discount is a good discount.
It’s worth downloading and trying it out on an item you’re already buying, but I wouldn’t count on it.
I prefer to think of it as one Nice surprised if there is a discount, but don’t have high expectations.
Ultimately, it’s all about finding those hidden gems. Sometimes you find gold, and sometimes it’s just a bit of a treasure hunt.
