I tried L’Oreal hair gloss to keep strands smooth even in the cold winter air
MANY things annoy me about winter: the blistering wind, dry skin, and dull hair.
If, like me, your hair never seems to look its best during the colder weather, no matter how many oils you slather on it, then it’s time to bring out the big gun: hair shine.
It seems the internet is going wild – with over 175 million TikTok videos using the #hair shine to keep their locks under control.
In any case, I wasn’t going to wait any longer to try it, celebrities like Amal Clooney and Madison Beer swear by the stuff to give their hair an instant refresh.
Hairstylist of the A-listers Demetris Giannetos said In Style he swears by L’Oreal’s Le Color Toning Hair Gloss to do Amal’s hair.
His technique is to “massage the hair [from root] to ends” to ensure all strands are covered with the shine treatment.
Madison Beer shared her secret to frizz-free hair in a live video on social media, saying, “I’ve seen so many TikToks about my hair, and people say ‘her hair is so shiny.’
“I get glosses quite regularly.”
I was willing to try the hack as soon as possible, especially if I could think about their hair.
What is a hair gloss?
“An at-home hair shine is typically a semi-permanent hair treatment that adds shine advantages the overall health and softness of your hair,” says Brad Mondo, founder and creative director of XMONDO.
The great thing about a hair shine treatment is that it usually only takes five to ten minutes and doesn’t process your hair as much as a hair dye, leaving it in good condition.
A hair gloss is designed to evidently add shine and even the tone of your hair.
How to use it
I decided to use the L’Oreal Paris Elvive Glycolic Gloss 5 Minute Lamination Treatment for Dull Hair which can be picked up in Boots for just £7.99.
I used the product exactly as the instructions suggested: first washing my hair with shampoo and then conditioner.
Once both were rinsed, I took a generous dollop of hair gloss, which smelled like a salon and was a cute pastel color. pink color on it and applied it through my hair.
Then I chilled in my bathrobe for five minutes while listening to my favorite true crime podcast (not instructed).
Expert advice on how often we should actually wash our hair
HAVE you ever wondered how often you should wash your hair?
According to stylist Scott Miller of Bauhaus salons in Cardiff, Waleswashing every day can be too much – and some people only need to wash once a week.

He told it Wales Online: “Unless you’ve worked really hard at the gym or been on a construction site and it’s covered in dust – you You don’t have to wash your hair every day.
“There is a big #neepoo movement Right now there are people who brag about not shampooing for weeks, but for most of us, putting off a wash or two will make a big difference.”
The frequency with which you should wash your hair depends on several factors, including your hair type, lifestyle and personal preferences. Here are some general guidelines:
Hair Type:
Oily hair: If you have oily hair, you may need to wash it more often, such as every day or every other day, to keep it looking fresh.

After I went back to the shower to rinse it out.
I could tell that this was definitely not a conditioner or shampoo – it did indeed feel like a hair dye when washed out and almost had a gritty texture.
But once it started going down the drain, I immediately felt how smooth my strands were — even more so than when I use a leave-in conditioner.
The results
I then dried my hair with a blow dryer and only used heat protection to keep it safe as I normally would.
Once I did that, I was pleasantly surprised.
My hair definitely felt super soft and smelled like I had just had a professional blowout.
I also noticed that my hair did indeed look much shinier than usual and less frizzy, and that my hair didn’t become matted even when I went outside in the blistering wind – a total bonus.
Final thoughts
I loved how L’Oréal’s gloss treatment left my hair feeling silky and shiny and would definitely add this to my routine.
In fact, I’m so impressed that I think I’ll swap my weekly deep conditioning treatment for the hair shine.
While I may not be hitting red carpets anytime soon like Amal or Madison, I’ll be relying on it to get me through the holiday party season.
