I tried three hair salt sprays and one made me feel like I was on vacation

SUMMER may be over, but you don’t have to say goodbye to your beach hair just yet.

Actually, unfinished hairstyles are all the rage during fall/winter and salt spray is the easiest way to create them.

The budget option is the most drying of all three sprays I tried

This week I put three of them to the test.

Budget

Charles Worthington Sunshine Salt Spray Takeaway, £3.49 for 50ml, boots.com.

I love the smell of this – it gave me a holiday feeling.

But it is the most drying mask I have tried, so it is best suited for people like me with relatively healthy hair. Otherwise, you may want to invest in a good hydrating mask to hydrate your hair.

Although it dries out your hair, it does not leave it brittle.

Less is definitely more here, and it took me a while to figure that out, so start small and add more product as you need.

Because the bottle is smaller than 100ml, it complies with hand luggage regulations and you can take it with you when flying abroad – a win-win situation!

Middle class

I only needed a few sprays of the mid-range product on my waist-length hair

L’Oréal Professionnel Tecni.Art Beach Waves Texturizing Salt Spray, £18.55 for 150ml, boots.com.

This was recommended to me by my hairdresser so I knew it would be good.

It doesn’t leave hair dry or hard, but it does have a matte finish, so it’s not greasy or sticky.

Can a new treatment called ‘hair Botox’ help you de-frizz your locks? Beauty writer Charlotte Bitmead tried it out.

Plus, you only need a tiny bit, so I only had to spray it a few times on my waist-length hair.

This is by far the one I enjoy using the most – and the packaging was also the easiest to use of the three.

Thanks to the trigger spray, no product ends up on your hands or over the entire nozzle during spraying.

This is the first time I've seen an oil based salt spray

Bumble and Bumblebee Surf Infusion spray, £29 for 100ml, lookfantastic.com.

This product has a fascinating two-phase formula that requires shaking to use.

This is my first time seeing an oil based salt spray so I didn’t know what to expect.

When I first applied it I barely felt it in my hair, but it definitely gave it more volume.

However, I have very fine hair, which left it looking quite greasy and limp at the end of the day.

It is probably most suitable for thick and dry hair, as the oil nourishes the strands and brings the texture back to life.

I don’t often pick a favourite, but I’ve been using Merit The Minimalist Complexion Stick, £40, almost every day since it launched two years ago, so it’s clearly one of my favourite products.

The handy stick doubles as both foundation and concealer, saving me time and space in my makeup bag.

This week, ten new shades launched that cover even more skin tones.

With a stick sold every 30 seconds so far in 2024, I’m not the only one who loves it. Shop at meritbeauty.com.
