I turned the dead space at the top of my stairs into a home office with B&Q & IKEA purchases
MANY people wish they had an extra room or two in their home for an office, game room or home gym.
However, one clever woman showed how she solved the problem in her home by transforming the dead space at the top of her stairs into a workspace.
Emily McAllister, who posts under @emilymcallister19showed off her simple yet effective DIY project that gave her a whole different part of her home to enjoy.
She used to have a staircase that spiraled up to her front door, but it took up much of her hallway.
Instead, she had construction workers add a platform to the hallway and make the stairs go straight down to save space.
Emily wrote: “Swipe to build our home office.
“Obsessed with our small office!!! Proof that no space is too small to be useful.”
She completed her ‘perfect office space’ with a few bargains.
First, Emily bought a B&Q desk in a natural oak color, which had room for her keyboard and monitor.
Next she bought an Ikea MULLFJÄLLET office chair and a tapestry from Tapi to complete the look.
The transformation not only looked good, but may also have added value to her home.
According to Octagonal capitalOn average, adding a home office to your home can increase the sales price of your home by five to ten percent.
People were amazed by the transformation and were quick to praise her space-saving idea.
One said: “This is such a clever use of space.”
A second added: “This is such a creative way to use wasted space! I love it.”
However, some people had some concerns.
One wrote: “I would roll backwards when I was thinking about something and fly down the stairs.”
Another agreed, saying: “I should put a speed bump along the carpet to keep me from rolling down the stairs.”

Emily replied: “We’ve been working here for about 2/3 months now and that hasn’t happened yet so I think we’re good haha!
“It’s about 2 meters long, so there’s not much chance of it falling off!”
Another person asked: “Doesn’t the stairs get super dark when the light is blocked?
“I think it’s a really nice idea!”
Emily replied: “Our front door has glass, so we let in a lot of light, and the window above is huge, so we let in so much light!”
