I used to sob at my desk in my office job – I’m so much happier since I quit
WORK can be a stressful environment and can worsen people’s mental health.
This is what happened to TikTok user @linzblog_ who shared a video with clips comparing how she felt when she had two completely different jobs.
In one clip, the woman was seen sobbing at her desk, while in the other clip, she was seen laughing with her colleague behind the counter of the coffee shop.
The text on the video reads: “When you didn’t realize how toxic your workplace was and how much it was affecting your mental health, health.”
“I wish I could just hug the girl in the video and tell her everything is going to be okay! #londonstruggles,” she added in the caption.
While some may consider an office job more appealing, she stressed that it is not worth the downsides.

People shared their own work-related mental health issues in the comments.
“This was me when I was BULLIED [of] “I was sitting at my workstation feeling so useless,” one person said.
Another noted, “I quit the toxic job, but I stayed in it too long… Now I feel like they won and it still affected me…
“Time goes by and it gets better… hopefully I’ll move on and stop thinking about [the] situation.”
“I felt this in my BONES, I feel like I can breathe now [beating heart emoji] I’m glad you’re happier now!” wrote a third.
“It’s funny how some workplaces make you feel this way, it’s so sad [disappointed face emoji]”, someone else wrote.
Last year, life coach Michelle Elman revealed the four signs you should quit your job.
She explained that dreading getting up and going to work is not the norm.
“We all have mornings that we dread, but if that feeling happens every day, then remember that you spend the majority of your day (and week) at work,” she said.
She also stressed that you need to be able to communicate with people at work.
What are my options if I hate my job?
According to the job vacancy website Indeed, you have multiple options.
- Assess your situation
- Talk to your boss about your challenges
- Assess your career goals
- Quit your job and look for a new one
She said, “You can communicate as well as you want, but if you’re not open to feedback and you’re not listening at work, you might as well be backed up against a wall.”
She added that there is a “energy “exchange” between employees and this can be influenced by things like the feeling of not being paid enough.
“When we have low self-esteem, we don’t see our time and energy as valuable. However, some key signs can be that you have more than one job or that the person above you does less than you but gets paid more,” she said.
Finally, she explained that a toxic workplace where you’re alone is a sign that you need to get away as soon as possible.
“Sometimes you can love your job, but the people you work with make your day harder than it needs to be.”
