I used to sweat like a waterfall, but my tip routine kept me from stinking
The summer heat is no match for a woman who has cracked the code for prevent sweat.
She said the layering method under her arms kept her dry and smelling fresh in warm weather.
Reddit user Sarah_metanH posted her advice on how to combat sweat in a comment on the social media platform.
She started by recommending that people pay close attention to clothing, especially if it has been worn on a warm day.
“Some garments can smell for various reasons. Synthetic fabrics are notorious for this,” she said.
“Also, waxy/oily deodorants or skin products, plus the oils from your own skin, can trap bacteria and odors in the fabric, making them extra difficult to remove.”

She added that while there are washing tips that can help, some clothes should be thrown away.
HER METHOD
Except cleaning She wore clothes and consulted a doctor, who explained how to stay dry.
“Wash your underarms with an acidic body wash and then scrub them with a clean washcloth or silicone scrub,” she said.
She then uses another product to remove the odor-causing bacteria from the environment.
“A surgical scrub like Hibiclens absolutely kills all bacteria on the skin,” she added.
“My routine was to use it with every one or two showers for a week and then switch back to my normal body wash.
“When I started smelling again (after about three to four weeks) I would have another week of surgical cleaning.”
She recommended using a toner with glycolic acid after the surgery.
She uses Glycolic Acid from The Ordinary, which sells for $13 at Sephora.
“After I washed my underarms, I applied a little toner. Then I let it dry before applying deodorant,” she said.
She used deodorant during her routine.
“It is highly recommended to look for formulas that are not oil or wax based (such as shea butter, coconut oil, beeswax, etc.),” she said.
She added that the wrong formulation can melt straight into clothing, leaving the battle against smelly armpits back to square one.
“I layered a few products on top of each other towards the end and it worked pretty well,” she said.
She also added a laundry detergent to use after applying the odor-fighting products.
“Lume also makes detergents. After I took off my shirt, I sprayed my armpits with their Biofilm Enzyme Spray to pre-treat them,” she said.
She added that at one point she was sweating so profusely that it was affecting her daily life.
“When you add heat and stress to that, I was stinking and had waterfalls of water running down my arms and sides,” she said.
Tip to remove yellow sweat stains
Yellow armpit stains happen to everyone, whether people admit it or not. But help is available. To remove yellow stains from your clothes, experts recommend the following methods:
- Baking soda paste: The pro’s of The Laundry Café recommend mixing a tablespoon of hydrogen peroxide with a tablespoon of salt and ½ cup of baking soda. Apply it directly to the stain with a toothbrush, rub it in and let the mixture sit for at least an hour, then wash as usual.
- Oxygen bleach: This method is just as useful for removing yellow stains. Mix one part oxygen-based bleach with one part ammonia in a non-metallic bowl. Wear gloves during this application. Rub it into the fabric with a toothbrush and let the solution sit for at least ten minutes before washing as normal.
- Stain remover or detergent: Collar stains can be just as tough to remove as armpit stains. Pre-treat the area with a solvent-based stain remover or detergent. Rub the product into the collar with a toothbrush and let it sit for at least ten minutes before washing.
