I wanted a cheap way to get some privacy from my neighbours so I made a fence for £33
A man shared how he came up with the perfect way to build a fence for just £33.
Patrick Cronin wanted to protect his home and garden from prying eyes, but he didn’t want to spend a lot of money on a specially designed fence.
And because the fence had to be placed on a lower wall, a traditional fence was not suitable.
That’s why Patrick decided to reuse some scaffolding poles and attach them from wall to wall.
“I used scaffolding poles for a few reasons,” he told Fabulous Online.
“They are strong and galvanised, you can place them very evenly and as I had some left over this was a handy way to use and recycle them.”
Then he came up with the clever idea of using rope to finish the fence.
“I bought 150 meters of hemp rope and made a pattern using existing standing poles,” he explains.
“I didn’t let go of the rope, but divided it into groups of 3 or 4 and pushed through each opening.”
In total he worked six hours on the fence and he is “so happy with the end result”.
He also calculated that the entire fence had cost him around £40 in total, which worked out to £33, as he already had the scaffolding poles and only had to pay for the fixings and rope.
“Always give preference to reuse and recycling, so that old things get a new life!”, Patrick concluded.
Homeowners around the world use fences to protect their homes from the prying eyes of their neighbors.
“Privacy fences are naturally appealing to homeowners hoping for a little more seclusion in their backyards, typically around swimming pools or between property lines,” said Matt Michaels, spokesman for Lowe’s Home Improvement. said.
“It’s also a great way to increase safety.”
How high can a garden fence be?
Despite popular belief, a garden fence can be 100 metres high. For any fence higher than 2 metres, you need a permit.
No building permit is required for fences shorter than 2 metres.
There are some complications, however.
If you are considering installing a fence for your front garden, there are restrictions: fences along a driveway may be a maximum of 1 metre high.
You will need a building permit to put a trellis on a 2m fence.
If a plant you grow on the rack is longer than 2 meters, you do not need to apply for a permit.
Privacy fences are also a great way to keep children and pets safe and in the yard.
“Not only are you keeping your pets inside, you may be keeping other animals outside,” he added.
Although it is not mandatory to consult with your neighbors about installing a fence, it is considered normal to do so.
