I was a janitor, so I know which toilets are dirty. Here are the best cabins to choose from
A FORMER janitor has told the story of how to find the cleanest public bathroom – and the stall you should never visit.
27-year-old Jennifer Cullison discovered the three bathroom secrets when she worked as a janitor for a few years and combined this with her PhD research into human behavior.
The US student advised TikTok users to always use the stalls on the left and avoid using the disabled bathroom.
“I’m going to tell you which cubicles in a bathroom are the least used and therefore the cleanest,” Jennifer said.
The ex-janitor explained that she also replaced the toilet paper during the hourly checks, so she could see which stalls were used the most.
“I’m also a PhD student in anthropology, so I study human behavior,” she added.
Jennifer warned that ‘the most important thing’ to keep in mind in public toilets is that the first few toilets are usually the most used – and therefore the dirtiest.
To avoid any unpleasant surprises, Jennifer advised to “go to the stall furthest from the bathroom door because people usually go in the first few stalls,” Jennifer advised.”
“The ones in the back, especially in large bathrooms, never get used.”
The second tip from the former caretaker was that if the bathroom has cupboards on either side, it is best to ‘always’ go to the left – this is because most people will choose to ‘go to the right’.
“I think that might have something to do with something being left-right.”
Her third and final piece of advice was to avoid handicap stalls at all costs, as this could deter someone who really needs it from using them.
Jennifer explained that most adults don’t use these, but because children “love novelty,” they head straight for the stalls.
Social media users were very grateful for the tips and said her video answered questions they had been thinking about for years.
“Thank you so much for this information, I literally think about this every time I’m in a public restroom and I always choose the second furthest one from the back,” one woman said.

”I read the opposite?
”That most people avoid the first and second stalls because they feel they are used the most?
