Tameka first met Jonathan when they were children growing up in the same neighborhood, but they soon drifted apart.

When Jonathan was in prison for 25 years, he decided to send her a love letter, despite not having spoken in fourteen years.

She said: “It was like, oh my God, after all these years he still remembers me, he still loves me. At that time I was still working, so I was afraid to respond to him.

‘I contacted Jonathan. He just said, I’m glad you finally gave me another chance after all these years and we made it official to be together.’

Now Jonathan is on parole and should be released in eleven years. He always looks forward to their weekly meetings.

She continued, “The first meeting with him was crazy because the same prisoners I had in custody and was mean to were the same prisoners I saw and was locked up with my husband.”

I was only 18 when I met my 56 year old husband – his previous two marriages were for green cards, but I know our love is real

While Tameka chooses to stand by her husband, she says she is often targeted by online trolls who say she is “stupid” for marrying a prisoner.

She added: “The judgment I faced when I started my relationship is: he’s going to take your pension, he’s going to get everything you have.”

But she refuses to give up on her relationship, adding: “He is my biggest blessing.”
