Sharing images of the DIY job, she said: “After having to pay £1,500 to do the stairs I got the runner from Dunelm for just £160.

“Instead of paying for the upstairs carpeting, the original floor was sanded and finally refinished.

“Even though we were almost divorced when we sanded and painted all the floorboards.”

Nikita showed off what the stairs in her home looked like before the transformation, which featured black banisters, a fluffy black carpet and bright red walls.

But thanks to her money-saving job, it now looked much more modern and luxurious.

She and her husband removed the carpet and sanded every floorboard and railing to get started.

Nikita swapped the black paint for a glossy white color and then added a Herringbone Border Runner from Dunelm to the center of the stairs.

In total she spent £160 on the runners, which cost £65 each.

She attached one to the upper hallway and the rest to the stairs – using metal bars to keep it down.

She revealed that she simply used furniture glue to attach the runner to the stairs.
