I was quoted over £1,000 for a breakfast bar but I made it myself for £16 using scrap wood
You don’t have to spend a fortune on new furniture to transform a space.
A woman shared her homemade breakfast on Facebook, which she made after receiving a quote of over £1,000 for materials alone.
Kerred Anne took to the official DIY On a Budget group with several photos of the final result.
The caption read: ‘I wanted a breakfast bar but was quoted over £1000 for the wood alone.
“I went to an auction and bought some dried wood (I don’t remember which wood), bought two industrial legs and stools.
“I sanded, stained and waxed the wood, mounted it to the wall and put the legs on.

“Surprised at how beautiful it turned out and that it was so cheap to do.
“But this is the end result with the help of my mother!”
In the comments section, Kerred was asked: “How much did you end up paying for the wood? I want countertops like this too. It looks so natural. I love it. Great job.”
She replied: “I bought it at auction for £16. All in all it cost me about £90.
“I had the stain and wax my mother gave me. Thank you very much.”
Everyone loved Kerred’s handiwork.
Someone commented: “That is absolutely stunning, well done.”
“Looks like you paid a professional to do it,” said another.
A third wrote: “That’s beautiful, I love it.”
Someone else said: “Looks great, always better when we do it ourselves. Some people are a scam. Well done.”
Kerred built her new breakfast bar in the kitchen. After choosing the right piece of wood and treating it, she screwed some legs under it and secured it to the wall.
These rustic breakfast bars are selling on Etsy for hundreds of pounds.
