The supermarket worker took to social media to share his long list of frustrations about working for the major chain, but it turns out shoppers are the problem.

Posting on Reddit, on the r/tesco thread, the anonymous user titled his post “I really don’t like people.”

Writing under the username @bbyxgfd, the user confirmed that he works at a Tesco Express store in Britain.

The Tesco worker then revealed the list of “things customers do that really annoy me.”

In an effort to “somehow get rid of the hate,” the employee shared the “things customers do that they just shouldn’t do.”

From “not using basic manners” to “ignoring everything I say during the transaction”, the Tesco worker was clearly very frustrated.

They explained why Clubcard members are among the worst, adding: “Telling me the price is incorrect before scanning their Clubcard.”

In addition, they also find it annoying when Clubcard members “hold the Clubcard for you so that you can scan it, but the barcode points to the ground”.

Not only this, but the employee also shared his anger about customers “talking on the phone,” “flirting,” and “throwing money on the counter” during a transaction.

If that’s not bad enough, it also turns this Tesco worker on when customers ‘don’t ask me to pack’ but instead ‘throw their bag at me’.

The other annoying thing customers do is when they “ask for a bag after paying for their groceries” or “chat with a friend they passed by and block the entire aisle and give dirty looks when you ask to come by to come”.

And it’s clear that customers aren’t just getting in the way at the checkout, as the Reddit user continued: “Don’t move when they see you coming through with a cage.”

The Tesco employee also can’t stand it when customers “ruin the sandwich fridge”, “leave a chilled product on the shelves” or “give me a discounted item and say it’s discounted”.

When will supermarkets release bargains with yellow stickers?

The time that supermarkets shorten their products varies per store.

Here’s a rough guide by supermarket:

Aldi

Aldi uses a red sticker to display discounts on fresh products such as bread, meat, fruit and vegetables.

This is when they have reached the last day of shelf life.

Red stickered items are most commonly found during opening and closing times.

MADAM

Discount times may vary from store to store, but will most likely occur around closing time.

Asda

Asda told Which one? that yellow stickers are applied twice a day – in the morning and in the evening.

Cooperative

Co-op told The Sun that the reduced prices are generally applied around four hours before the store closes.

Lidl

Lidl has a similar procedure to Asda and Aldi, with twice-daily discounts.

However, individual stores may choose to reduce prices during the day.

Morrisons

Online shoppers say Morrisons has the best bargains early in the morning.

However, the store told Which? that there are no specific times for yellow sticker price reductions.

Sainsbury’s

Sainsbury’s told The Sun that it is up to the store manager to offer discounts.

However, shoppers have reported that the best deals are in the evenings from 6pm.

Tesco

Tesco has said there is no specific time for reduction, but again most people found prices were reduced from 6pm.

Guard rose

As with most other stores, Waitrose shoppers have said the best discounts are found before closing.

However, the store stated that there is no specific time when yellow stickers must be applied.

To top it all off, the supermarket worker also finds it frustrating when customers ‘stink’ and ‘stay at the checkout after they’ve paid, WHILE I OBVIOUSLY HAVE A HUGE QUEUE TO GET THROUGH.’

Despite this, the Reddit user concluded: “I actually love my job, I promise!”

Reddit users respond

Many fellow Tesco employees understood the user’s frustrations and flocked to the comments to share the things they couldn’t stand about customers.

One person said: “What I hate is when they decide you’re not entitled to personal space when you’re cutting back. You just become an obstacle for them to get around, or in some cases, get through.”

One more to add; when they awkwardly hold their Clubcard for you so you can scan it while you’re packing

Reddit user

Another said: “Line in line, chat. If you want to talk to someone, get out of the way. Why block everyone in line?”

A third commented: “One of the things I hate is people who drop something on the floor and just walk away without putting it back on the shelf. Does it really irritate anyone else or is it just me?”

While someone else chimed in: “One more to add; when they awkwardly hold their Clubcard for you to scan while you’re packing, so you feel obliged to stop what you’re doing to scan it.

“It may seem strange to some, but SO MANY customers do this and it’s so annoying. Just wait until I’m done.”

Insider tip from a Tesco employee

A Tesco employee has revealed a surprising secret about the self-scanning carts.

According to the employee, the random checks on customers using these carts are not entirely random.

The controls are actually triggered by a specific customer habit.

If you often pick up and put down items without scanning them, you are more likely to be selected for an audit.

This is because the system detects suspicious behavior, which may indicate possible theft.

To avoid delays, it is best to scan the items immediately after placing them in your shopping cart.
