IAF and Navy initiate process to scrap deal with taxi aggregator over security fears
NEW DELHI: IAF, Navy and Coast Guard have initiated the process of terminating their agreements with taxi aggregator Uber as a precautionary measure after some cyber security experts identified the risks of possible data exposure and location tracking of military personnel and their families using the service.
The IAF signed an agreement with Uber on October 18 to “provide reliable, convenient and safe transportation services to IAF personnel, veterans and families”, following similar MoUs earlier drawn up by the Navy and Coast Guard.
“Adequate measures were taken to ensure that data security was protected when the MoUs were signed with Uber. But due to a huge controversy on social media, the contracts are being scrapped after the taxi aggregator was informed about it,” said one official.
