Google I/O starts next week to herald a new era of Android (prepare for a number of large AI, XR and Android 16 news), but before that time we still have many tech new stories that have to treat in the last seven days.
Samsung launched an ultra -thin phone, DJI gave us a best-in-class drone and the Boombox returned. To catch up with all of that, scroll down to see the seven biggest technical stories of the week.
Once you are entangled, be sure to view our choices for the Seven new films and TV programs to view this weekend (May 16).
We have touched the edge of the Galaxy

After months of teasers we finally went hands-on with the Galaxy S25 Edge, and as our Hands-on review Calls it, the Samsung telephone for people who like to hate Samsung phones.
As the American mobile editor Philip Berne wrote: “The Galaxy S25 edge is the solution for a very simple formula. Take a Galaxy S25 plus. Shave 1.5 mm from the thickness by removing the zoom camera and the battery in Krimpen. Add a 200mp camera sensor.
The thinness and lightness are something that you have to experience yourself. The design has already won several of our writers and our social media editor, who believes that it not only looks fantastic, but also feels great in your hand.
The DJI Mavic 4 Pro Nam Flight
We have tested the newest DJI-Drone, and it is certainly impressed by fantastic flight performance, speed and strength, making it the best Mavic-Drone so far.
That’s why our DJI Mavic 4 Pro Review has awarded a complete 5 stars.
The camera can be tilted in almost every direction, making it super versatile, it has a fantastic triple lens arrangement, and the larger battery means that you can fly it longer between loads, which means that it offers an unparalleled degree of creative options for your next film.
It’s not just a great DJI drone, it’s perhaps just the best drone you can buy now.
Garmin unveils a few new Forerunner -watches
We expected a new one Garmin Forerunner to drop very quickly, but Garmin went and surprised us with two new specialist running watches. The Garmin Forerunner 570 and Garmin Forerunner 970 offer some new tools, such as a speaker and microphone (the better to record fast calls during sports), a new evening report and the brightest AMOLED displays from Garmin so far. The 970 packaging extra functions such as a Titanium Bezel, some unique new statistics such as running tolerance and an ECG function. If that is not enough, we also have a new heart rate monitor, the HRM 600, which can work with the 970 to generate those advanced running statistics.
It is all flashy, cool -looking things, but these devices are not cheap: the 570 costs $ 549.99 / £ 459.99 / au $ 999 while the 970 clocks at $ 749.99 / £ 629.99 / AU $ 1,399. We look forward to testing, but our first instinct is that a great performance boost would be for serious runners and owners of, for example, the much older Forerunner 945 – however, those who possess more recent Garmin watches will probably not be seduced to upgrade.
The Boombox is back
Don’t call it a comeback.
The new We Are Rewind GB-001 is a BonaFide Cassette Boombox complete with modern upgrades such as Bluetooth 5.4, a 3000 mAh battery Perfect for 10 hours of speaker offs and 104W power than our classic tree box ever had.
It seems that everything you could ask, frankly, perfectly combining technology from the 2020s and 1980s in a package that we are very enthusiastic to try when we can. We know it will launch on the very reasonable £ 379 / € 449 (around $ 505 / AU $ 781), but for now there is no confirmed release date.
Streaming had a big week
It was again a busy week in the world of entertainment. Indeed, not only we are treated to one New Superman trailer and the First official teaser for Marvel’s Ironheart TV showBut also a wealth of large announcements at this year’s stock market -based exhibition.
And if we say great, we mean it. From the news that Max is re -reversed HBO Max again mid -2025and one Very host of TV show innovations by NetflixThere is plenty to read last week.
How huge that is revealed, but we were most impressed by Disney’s Upfront 2025 presentation. If you have missed them, you can Seven largest Disney+ and Hulu announcements here. Believe us when we say you want to do that too!
Google gave Android a makeover over
Prior to Google I/O Next week, Google organized the Android show and offered us a glimpse of the interface changes with Android 16.
We have not seen any new devices that perform the software (URGH!) But the new material 3 Expressive guidelines require an extensive use of color, movement effects and a whole series of visual instructions that feel as if they are directly focused on 18-24-year-old reading: the most loyal iPhone fans.
In his official blog post, Google says: “It’s time to go beyond ‘clean’ and ‘boring’ designs to create interfaces that make contact with people on an emotional level.”
We will have to see how this approach takes place when Android 16 starts to roll out later this year.
Apple CarPlay Ultra finally on the road
AppleThe next Gen-CarPlay system should land in 2024, but after an extensive software-pitstop it finally arrived, if you have a new Aston Martin SUV, at least.
CarPlay Ultra is currently only available on the new Aston Martin DBX, but the debut has given us a taste of what is coming to other cars (including Hyundai, Kia and more). And that is a slick software experience in the iPhone style that takes over the entire infotainment system from your car.
Just like with iOS you can adjust the color schemes and wallpapers from CarPlay, but you can also adjust the climate control, radio stations and heated seats, all from the same place. It is time, but hopefully we don’t have to wait another year to get a wider rollout.
