Kaylyn Heuvel (@kaylyn.hill) burst into tears after her ‘Google Chrome’ nails looked like ‘Skittles’.

She said she couldn’t believe her eyes when she saw the end result after spending £53 on the beauty treatment.

In a TikTok video that has since gone viral, the 23-year-old says she did her research and figured out exactly what look she wanted before going into her appointment.

On the advice of her sister, Kaylyn decided to go to a nail technician instead of a salon.

According to Kaylyn, the technician claimed she could complete the job after receiving a description of the work involved.

Despite her request for quartz nails, Kaylyn was given short, multi-colored nails with thick tips and uneven lines.

She said she wanted to make her nails look longer and shinier, but the end result left her crying in the car.

Despite her frustration, Kaylyn agreed to pay the fee and did not file a complaint directly with the woman.

The Texas housewife also tipped the nail technician for her work.

Kaylyn described them as “Google Chrome” nails and said she would remove them immediately.

I had a full manicure but refused to pay a cent because I chose the wrong color – people are furious but it’s not my fault

“I’m going to be crying about this for the next six years,” she said, tearfully on camera.

“I paid for some hideous nails that look like Skittles. I told the woman they were super cute and gave her a tip.”

What are your refund rights at a salon?

What should you do if you are not satisfied with the beauty treatment you have had?

The National Federation for Hair & Beauty advises that if you are dissatisfied with the service, you should file a complaint while you are still in the salon.

If you have already left the premises, we do not advise you to seek help elsewhere. The original company must first see the problem before the complaint is processed.

How are you legally protected?

The Consumer Rights Act 2005 (England and Wales) states:

  • If a service has not been provided with due care and skill or in accordance with the agreements, the service provider must rectify this within a reasonable period of time and at its own expense.
  • If this is not feasible, you will receive part or all of the amount back within 14 days of agreeing to the refund.

What options does the salon offer to address the problem?

The company can offer the following:

  • Rerun the service in whole or in part.
  • Offer a full or partial refund.
  • Pay to have the problem resolved elsewhere (at a reasonable price).

The video caused an uproar on TikTok as users debated Kaylyn’s response to the situation.

“One, why do you need fake nails?! And two, real or fake, they can’t be longer than a quarter inch,” said one viewer.

“When you’ve waited a long time to treat yourself and you only have £53 to spare, it’s so disappointing when they’re wrong,” wrote another follower.

“I feel so sorry for you.”

“She said, ‘You’re going home with Crayola,’” a third person joked.

Another TikTok user described the finished manicure as “offensive.”
