I’m 27 and I’ve never cut my hair, it’s so long it almost reaches my knees
A Mississippi WOMAN has gone viral for the length of her hair.
Mandy Bowen, 27, a mother of three, said she has never cut her hair. She never cut it or trimmed it as a child.
His hair is over a meter long and reaches mid-thigh.
So how did she manage to grow her locks so long? And why has she never cut them?
In a recent TikTok video, Mandy explains her hair care routine.
“I’m 27 years old and I never cut my hair, not even the ends, when I was a kid,” she said.
“That’s how I was raised and I’ve carried that into my adulthood. And it’s a personal decision of mine.
“I think it’s really cool that I’ve had the same hair since I was a kid.”
The longer your hair, the more time it takes to wash it. So how does Mandy wash her locks?
“I’ve trained my hair to wash it every seven to nine days, and it doesn’t really get greasy,” she revealed.
“I can get three to four washes out of one bottle of shampoo.
“But when the day comes that I have to wash my hair, I have to give myself the biggest pep talk ever because I’m dreading it.
“And I dread brushing it afterwards, normally I let my husband do that.”
Despite her beautiful long hair that most women would envy, Mandy is trolled and asked questions by ‘Karens’.
“People say my hair should be ‘much longer’ than a 27-year-old’s hair,” she noted.
“I don’t trim the ends of my hair, so it splits and breaks.
“Things like hormones and your diet can contribute to a person’s hair growth.
“I’ve had three children and I’ve lost her during each postpartum phase.
“So I’m sorry if you think my hair should be longer than it is now, but that’s just reality.
“And I curl my ends a lot and when I do that, I often see them burn. I think that’s another reason why my hair is so long.”
Mandy’s videos are filled with comments from people telling her to cut her hair.
Why doesn’t Mandy cut her hair?
Mandy practices the Pentecostal movement, a Protestant Christian movement that emphasizes the baptism in the Holy Spirit.
Some women who follow this religion choose not to cut their hair, as they believe that hair has spiritual significance.
A passage from the Corinthians in the Bible says, “But if a woman has long hair, it is a glory to her; for her hair is given to her for a covering.”
Mandy is a pastor’s wife and her family goes to church regularly. She even admitted that Sunday is her favorite day of the weekend because she goes to church.
She also revealed that “several aldies” in her church don’t cut their hair.
One of them said, “Trim your hair ends and it grows faster and is healthier.” Mandy replied, “That’s true, but I don’t cut or trim my hair at all.”
Someone else asked, “Why don’t you trim it?” And yet another replied, “She thinks God doesn’t want her.”
One comment said: “Cutting is very important for hair growth!
“If you don’t cut split ends, they will spread through your hair and break off (I don’t mean to be rude by the way, I just want to inform people who aren’t aware of this).”
But Mandy interrupted: “I can speak for myself, thank you very much. It’s for Biblical reasons. I personally don’t think I should cut my hair, so I don’t.”
In several videos by @mbs.hairwithstyle, you can see her combing her hair back before putting it in a bun or updo. Very rarely is she seen loose.
Mandy was asked in the comments: “Do you always wear it backwards?”
She replied, “Usually in the summer because it’s so hot and humid in Mississippi!”
“I often wear it curly or wavy and loose in the fall and winter.”
