I’m 51 and have ‘glass skin’ thanks to a fortnightly routine that ‘loosens’ dead cells
A CELEBRITY make-up artist with years of skin care expertise has shared how to achieve glass skin in your 40s and over.
Kat James, 51, swears by a ‘really easy’ routine that’s tailored to mature skin and ‘loosens’ dead skin cells from your face to reveal a brighter complexion.
Glass skin is a popular skincare goal that originated in South Korea and refers to skin that looks exceptionally smooth, clear and radiant – almost as if it were made of glass.
And while achieving glass skin can feel difficult, Kat says all it takes is one simple change in skincare routine.
“The good news is that this is a very easy solution,” she says.
According to Kat, who has one million followers on TikTok thanks to her sound skincare advice, exfoliating is the key to achieving glass skin.

“Our skin cells die,” she explains.
“They die during a cycle of 28 to 34 days.
“But if you don’t remove those dead cells, they can stick to your skin and become stuck, almost as if they were glued.
“They build up in layers and layers, and then they become dull.”
Kat said there are two types of exfoliation to choose from, and they both work equally well for achieving glass skin.
There are manual exfoliation and chemical exfoliation.
Manual exfoliation involves physically scrubbing the skin with abrasive substances or tools to remove dead skin cells.
Common options include scrubs with organic small grains (such as sugar or ground seeds), facial brushes, or microdermabrasion tools.
Kat recommended the Mario Badescu Botanical Exfoliating Scrub, which you can get for £25.50 in Harvey Nichols or £26 in Beauty Bay.
Chemical exfoliation uses acids or enzymes to dissolve the bonds between dead skin cells, making them easier to shed.
How to reverse aging in just 2 weeks, according to the royal nutritionist
London-based Gabriela Peacock, who has helped Prince Harry and Princess Eugenie, among others, prepare for their weddings.
She told Fabulous: “The science is clear that we all have the power to make simple life-changing changes to better our future selves – no matter what genetic hand we’ve been dealt.
“The reality is that we all indulge in unhealthy eating habits from time to time, such as processed foods, smoking cigarettes, drinking too much alcohol, inhaling city pollutants and even drinking water from plastic bottles – nothing of all this is good for us.
“All this does is promote the aging process, but we all have the potential to change this.”
It can be difficult, but try to avoid sugary carbs because they fuel chronic inflammation, which is one of the worst enemies of anti-aging.
Only now you will gain weight if you consume them regularly, but your energy and hormonal levels will be affected and this will affect how you look and feel.
Whatever your age or health condition, it’s never too late to reverse the rate at which you age and embrace the energy and strength of a younger you.
Antioxidants, such as vitamins A, C and E, are essential in neutralizing free radicals, the culprits behind premature aging.
Incorporating a spectrum of colorful fruits and vegetables into your diet provides a powerful source of antioxidants.
Omega-3 fatty acids, found in abundance in oily fish such as salmon and flaxseed, are essential for maintaining skin elasticity and hydration.
Omega-3 fatty acids nourish your skin, retain moisture and reduce fine lines and wrinkles.
Collagen, a structural protein that declines with age, can be replenished through collagen-rich foods such as bone broth and lean protein sources.
You can also use fruit enzyme facial peels, with ingredients like papaya or pineapple, which gently break down dead skin.
Kat compared chemical exfoliants to “little Pac Men that eat away at the skin” and urged people “not to be scared” by the terminology.
She recommended the Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare Alpha Beta Universal Daily Peel, which costs £21 for a pack of five on Cult Beauty.
The well-known MUA shared her tips in one now viral TikTok video and it sparked a sea of approval from other women in their 50s.
One wrote: “I think I’m exfoliating too much but it works.
“I started at the age of 14 and am now over 55.
“The key for me is to hydrate immediately with serums and cream.”
