Karie, 57, has converted her and her ex-husband’s holiday home in the Canary Islands into a naturist resort and says dating as a nudist businesswoman is “tricky” because some potential partners “get the wrong idea”.

The blonde woman has been a naturist for over 20 years and moved to Fuerteventura permanently in 2013 after her divorce.

In 2019, she transformed her holiday home into the BHH Naturist Resort in Costa Calma, a five-apartment retreat, and since then she has “fallen in love” with naturism.

Since opening, her business has grown exponentially, with highlights including a naked yoga session on the Channel 5 programme The Canary Islands with Jane McDonald.

Karie takes proud She creates a safe environment at her resort, carefully screens single male guests and loves to see how her guests, including breast cancer patients, gain more self-confidence during their stay.

Her family, including her parents in their late 70s, have visited and embraced the nudist lifestyle.

But she finds dating as a naturist difficult, as she told PA Real Life: “Since running the naturist resort, I would say naturism has made me fall in love with myself, it’s very liberating.

“I think the whole dating thing is difficult for me because of the type of business I run, because potential partners often get the wrong impression unless they are naturists themselves.

“So I’m really happy to be single… but maybe someone should make a dating app for naturists!”

In 2000, Karie visited her first nudist beach during a holiday in Spain. Since then, she has continued to go on holiday naked.

I have been gaining weight my whole life, but I don’t cover up and I wear less clothing than ever before. I even teach yoga naked.

Together with her then husband, she even bought a holiday home on Fuerteventura in 2001, consisting of five apartments, so that she could enjoy the naturist life more often.

But when Karie and her husband divorced in 2013, she decided to move to Fuerteventura permanently for a fresh start.

For a number of years she rented out parts of her property to families and surfers, but in 2019 she made “the big decision to offer naturist holidays” to adults.

Her ex-husband, with whom she is still friends, was also very supportive of her decision.

Since opening, her business has been booming and in January 2024 she featured on the Channel 5 programme The Canary Islands with Jane Mcdonald, where Jane visited her resort to see Karie and her guests taking part in a naked yoga retreat.

Karie said: “It came across so well and I was so happy!

“I do yoga regularly anyway and it’s lovely to do it naked or not – but I do get a bit warm, so naked is ideal!

“I was so proud and happy to be on the show.”

She also runs a women’s retreat where other female naturists can stay, make friends and embrace the naturist lifestyle.

What is naturism?

Naturismalso called nudism, is a cultural and lifestyle movement that advocates and practices social nudity in both private and public spaces.

The philosophy behind naturism emphasizes harmony with nature, self-respect, respect for others and a sense of community.

Naturism is a diverse and inclusive lifestyle that encourages people to embrace their natural state, develop a deeper connection with nature and build a community based on mutual respect and equality.

Naturists believe that naturism promotes a healthy and accepting attitude towards the human body, regardless of its shape, size or imperfections.

Many naturists are also advocates of environmental conservation and sustainable living, as they believe in a close connection with nature.

Naturism also promotes a sense of equality, as clothing is often a sign of social status. The absence of naturism can help break down these barriers.

Karie is naked in everyday life and ‘joins in with guests’ during barbecues or evening drinks.

She has also cared for breast cancer patients and is proud that they dare to show their scars.

She added: “I have a lot of naturists who are going to the beach for the first time, so maybe the ladies just go topless on the first day or two.”

“And by the end of the week, they fully embrace the lifestyle.

“I am proud that they feel safe and confident that the other guests can take off all their clothes in front of them. Naturists are the friendliest community on the planet. We are very caring and supportive of each other.”

Since running the business, she has had “many fantastic memories” with guests, as most of them come back “time and time again”.

There are many misconceptions, especially from men

Karie Jane

She continued: “Some of them are more like friends – a naturist is a friend without the packaging!

“I met them in the UK and we keep in touch.”

Her loved ones are “very proud” of her business and her parents “love it,” as she explained: “They love it and they were very impressed with the pool.” swimming pool and the facilities and how I developed the company.”

However, she often faces inappropriate comments when she tells people about the business, as she reveals: “There are a lot of misconceptions, especially from men who only get naked to shower or have sex.

“They immediately think that naturism is about sexual activities, rather than non-sexual social nudity, which is what I offer.”

To people considering naturism, Karie said, “I would say to anyone, just stick your first toe in and if you don’t like it, at least you’ve had the experience.

“But most people think it’s the best holiday ever because you don’t have wet bathing suits!

“Everyone is equal – they don’t wear clothes that show if someone is wearing expensive brands, which is very liberating.”
