I’m 5ft 1in – I tried a £29.99 ‘magic trousers’ to make my legs look longer

“MAGIC numbers” mean that pants appear to change the proportions of your body, creating the illusion of long legs.

Does it work for celebrities? Would it work for Sarah Morton?

“As I stare at my legs in the dressing room mirror during yet another failed shopping trip, I’m flooded with frustration.

Is it really impossible for a 1.50 meter tall woman to find trousers that flatter her figure?

All decent pants, no matter where they come from, make me look small and sloppy.

As a celebrity journalist, I see images of famous women looking flawless all the time. Even the smaller women dress in a way that suits their proportions.

Lately I’ve noticed that a lot of stylish stars are wearing extra long pants to make their legs look longer.

Dragging your pant legs on the sidewalk sounds ridiculous, but Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Jennifer Aniston, Rochelle Humes and J-Lo all give it a try.

It appears as if their body proportions change, creating the illusion of longer legs.

Even Jennifer Lopez, who is 5 feet 4 inches tall, appears to have long legs.

Plus, my stylist friends tell me it also looks slimming because it makes the waist smaller.

I am a 41 year old mother and still waiting for my growth spurt.

Golden Ratio – What is it and who has the best breasts and buttocks?

I’ve been the same height since I was 14, but unfortunately I’ve gotten wider.

I’d like to say I’ve stayed slim by running around after having a toddler, but unfortunately, since the birth of my daughter Sophie in 2022, I’ve gone up two dress sizes, making me a size 14 now.

A wobbly belly when you are small is also not good for your BMI.

At almost 10st it comes to 27.3, which is considered overweight.

When I look in the mirror I don’t see a ‘big’ person and in my mind I still fit into all those old outfits I wore when I was a size 38.

But the reality is that many clothes, especially trousers, no longer fit me.

Nowadays, my wardrobe consists of four pairs of black leggings that I alternate between, or — look away, Gen Z — skinny jeans.

I just don’t feel well

There is nothing wrong with size 46, but I don’t feel comfortable with this new version of myself, because I don’t feel comfortable.

According to fashion experts, this celebrity styling trick can change your proportions and elongate your legs.

The celebrities who wear extra-long trousers, including the 1.62-metre Victoria Beckham and the 1.61-metre Cheryl, look as if their torso is a third of their total height, and their legs two-thirds.

But when I look at myself in my skinny jeans, my torso is half of my body.

There’s some science behind the pants trick.

For a long time, the Golden Ratio, first devised by the Greeks about 2,000 years ago, was used to determine the perfect pins.

They calculated the most attractive proportions of the body and said that the legs should be twice as long as the upper body. That is, the lower body should be two-thirds of the total length and the upper body one-third.

Clemmie Fieldsend, editor at Fabulous Fashion, tells me: “Styling is really about numbers and shapes. Even Coco Chanel once said, ‘fashion is architecture, it’s all about proportions’.

“The most flattering look we can achieve is when the top of the body is balanced with the bottom two-thirds, and this trouser trick is a great way to style that.”

Luckily, there are plenty of these extra long, high-waisted trousers for sale on the high street.

I opt for a pair from Zara for £29.99.

The first thing I noticed is how comfortable they are to wear.

What I often notice with jeans designed for my height is that they generally fit petite women, size 38, which causes my belly to hang out.

But with these trousers you no longer have overhanging legs and the fabric does not pinch.

Light and fluid

Although they are roomier than the straight or skinny leg styles, I’ve found that adding more material makes my legs look surprisingly slimmer.

These pants are so light and flexible that it feels like I’m barely wearing anything.

And apart from the comfort, I instantly feel taller, slimmer and sexier.

I feel like they covered up all the wobbly spots and accentuated the slim legs I remember from my youth.

Now my legs look twice as long as my torso.

Even my partner Jamie, 43, noticed a difference. “You look beautiful,” he said when I first put them on on a rare date night.

I’m not sure if it was the butt itself or the new confidence I exuded, but there was definitely a change.

Every day I wear my trusty black leggings – these pants are too nice for the playground – but when the opportunity arises, I wear these wonder pants
