I’m a big fan of a dual-action skincare product, especially if you have oily skin.
HIT snooze on your morning alarm because skin care routines don’t have to involve multiple time-consuming steps, according to a dermatologist.
Dr. Clare Kiely raved about a dual-action product as one of her tips for an even complexion.
Dr. Kiely lives in London, England, and has been studying the skin for over 15 years, specializing in skin aging and cancer.
She is a dermatologist and co-founder of the cosmetics brand The Skin Diary.
In an interview with The US Sun, she gave advice on how to combat the visible signs of aging.
TIME SAVING
Dr. Kiely recommends purchasing products that serve multiple purposes so you don’t have to have a long morning routine.
She revealed the specific order in which beauty products should be applied to get the best results.
“Use your antioxidant serum in the morning after cleansing,” she said.
“If you need moisturizer, apply that second and sunscreen third.
“I’m a big fan of sunscreens that double as moisturizers, especially if you have oily or breakout-prone skin, because no one wants to be doing too many steps in the morning.”
It is best to only use creams containing retinoids in the evening, as they increase the skin’s sensitivity to the sun.
Dr. Kiely advises to cleanse and dry the skin before applying the vitamin A derivative.
“Remember to do this 2-3 times a week in the beginning and then seal in the moisture with a nourishing night cream,” she said.
“I like botanicals and peptides in my night cream because the phenolic compounds are full of antioxidants and anti-inflammatories. Plus, the peptides repair the skin while you sleep.”
DREAMY SOLUTION
For many people, getting at least eight hours of sleep per night is difficult, especially for those with young children or busy work lives.
“Be kind to yourself and get as much sleep as possible,” says Dr. Kiely.
“Stress also has an impact and is linked to poor sleep, so it’s important to work on good sleep habits and reduce stress, which is also important for youthful skin.”
She said that sleep lines can become permanent in “older, less elastic skin,” but it is not a common problem for her clients.
Do what you can to get a good night’s sleep.

“If you sleep on your stomach and you sleep in the same position every night with your face on the pillow, then it is possible,” she said.
“Sleeping on your back, using a comfortable memory foam pillow, or using a satin pillowcase to give your face a little more glide are all options.
“Honestly, the impact of your sleeping position on your skin is not nearly as big as the impact of UV rays on your skin. So I would say: don’t sweat the small stuff and wear sunscreen.
“Do what you can to get a good night’s sleep and if a silk pillowcase does that for you, go for it.”
Dr Clare Kiely previously revealed that “the gold standard in skin care” is L-ascorbic acid, a form of vitamin C.
She described it as the “most powerful and abundant antioxidant in the epidermis.”
It is worth using serums containing this ingredient, as L-ascorbic acid decreases with aging and exposure to UV radiation.
For a youthful appearance, antioxidants, retinoids and peptides should be used daily in combination with SPF.
