I’m a budget expert. With my simple trick you can save € 350 on your energy bill
A MONEY saving expert has revealed a simple trick homeowners can do to save £350 on energy bills.
Summer now seems to be well and truly over, and many of us have probably struggled to stay warm this week as we’ve been buffeted by a deluge of wind and rain.
It may be tempting to turn on the heating at the first sign of autumn, but with energy bills rising from October 1 and the winter fuel payment canceled for millions, this is not an affordable option for countless Brits.
With this in mind, Fred Harrington, CEO of discount site Bountiirevealed five simple things you can do to keep energy costs low.
Bleeding radiators
Bleeding radiators is an essential load that can improve the energy efficiency of your home, and Fred revealed that this simple task could ultimately save you £350.
He said: “By doing this quick, easy task you will allow air to escape, improve heat circulation and potentially save almost £350 on your energy bills thanks to the improved heat efficiency in your home.”

To safely bleed your radiators, you must first ensure that your heating is switched off.
Then, using a radiator wrench, slowly turn the tap counterclockwise until you hear a hissing sound.
Once the noise disappears and the water starts flowing, collect it in a container and use the radiator wrench to tighten the valve again.
Rugs
Fred revealed that around 10% of heat loss in homes is through floors, so he recommended putting rugs on the floor to make your home warmer.
He said: “Carpets can be an incredibly effective addition to reducing heat loss in any home.
“Thanks to their excellent insulating properties and density, wool rugs are perfect for helping to create warmth, slowing heat transfer to your floor and maintaining a warmer interior.”
Making your home draught-proof
By draught-proofing your home you can reduce energy bills by £45 per year, according to Fred.
The expert recommended using a match or lighter to determine where cold drafts are entering your home.
Once you have identified the draft, you can use bubble wrap, cling film or weather stripping to prevent the air from escaping.
Foil behind radiators
Another simple trick from Fred is to put foil behind your radiators.
This is because the foil, which can be purchased for just €1.40 per roll, reflects heat back into the room that would otherwise escape through the walls.
The expert added that placing shelves above the radiator can also help make your room warmer, as the shelves throw heat forward into the room.
Invest in a higher Tog duvet
Choosing the right duvet can make a big difference in how warm you feel at night.
Fred recommended a duvet of Tog 13.5 or higher for winter, at an average price of £15-20.
He added: “If you’re struggling to keep warm during the colder months, you may need to opt for a 15 tog duvet, which normally costs between £20 and £30.”
