I’m a Dermatologist – Get Rid of Stretch Marks with Three Must-Have Products
A dermatologist has revealed the three-step routine she used during her pregnancy to prevent stretch marks.
Dr. Adel shared her secrets on social media, so if you’re pregnant and want to prevent stretch marks, listen up.
The skin care expert said: “We need to talk about stretch marks.
“I was nine months pregnant and I didn’t have any stretch marks.
“Partly because I knew from within what I had to do.”
She added that stretch marks are often genetic, but that her skin care routine can help stop or reduce them altogether.
“Genetics play a big part. My mom got a lot of stretch marks, but I didn’t. So I definitely think starting early and doing this routine helped,” the doctor added.
The beautician said that you should start using hyaluronic acid on your stomach as soon as you find out you are pregnant.
She advised using it on damp skin, as this will allow the hyaluronic acid to penetrate much deeper into the skin.
You can buy it for less than £10 at The Ordinary for £8.80. The Ordinary has over 9,000 reviews and an average of 4.5 out of 5 stars.
Dr. Adel recommended using a moisturizer after the treatment, specifically one with Centella Asciatica in the formula.
This herb has strong anti-inflammatory properties, making it effective in calming and soothing irritated or inflamed skin. It also reduces the appearance of stretch marks.
Finally, she said the last step was to apply some sort of body oil to set it all in place.
The clip she posted on her TikTok account @needle has since gone viral with over 226,000 views and 20,000 likes.
People thanked the dermatologist for the tips, but also reminded women that it is completely natural and normal to get stretch marks.
Someone wrote: “I followed this exact routine and zero stretch marks!”
The Importance of Sunscreen in Your Skin Care Routine
Dermatologist and skin care enthusiast Andrea Suarez — better known as Dr. Dray — shared why you should wear sunscreen.
The one thing you can do to make the biggest difference – and this applies to all ages – is to protect your skin from the sun, Andrea emphasizes.
“The vast majority of external aging is caused by ultraviolet exposure,” she continued, and not by “not using a nice serum or not putting 90 different things on your face every day.”
“If you’re not doing this in your twenties, start now.”
But she said that wearing sunscreen alone doesn’t go far enough. Andrea urged that you also wear sun-protective clothing, such as wide-brimmed hats and long sleeves, and that you don’t stay in the sun for too long.
If you do this throughout your life – and all year round, not just in the summer or on sunny days – “the visible signs of sun-induced skin aging will diminish,” says Andrea.
These are wrinkles, impure pigmentation and sagging skin.
Another commented: “Thank you!”
“Am I pregnant? No? Am I taking notes on this video? Yes,” wrote a third.
Meanwhile, a fourth said: “Can I just say that there is absolutely nothing wrong with stretch marks if you get them? They are normal and a person grows naturally, without having to worry about stretch marks.”
“You can do all those things perfectly from day one, but it won’t prevent you from getting stretch marks if it’s in your genes,” claimed a fifth.
Someone else added: “And if you get/got stretch marks, it doesn’t matter at all! Have a nice day.”
