I’m a DIY enthusiast and I gave my hallway a mega shine in an hour with a £3 purchase
A DIY SAVVY woman is impressed with her budget-friendly hallway transformation that took just an hour.
Shanice Samuels used a £3 purchase from The Range for the hack, which also helps to insulate the house.
Shanice regularly posts updates about her efforts to renovate her flat on the Facebook group DIY on a budget officerwhich has more than 2 million members.
People were stunned when she shared a photo of her glamorous hallway transformation.
She chose strips of weather stripping tape to create the illusion of expensive wood panels.
Wainscoting is decorative, but it also helps add a layer of insulation to rooms, keeping them warmer for longer.

“I went to the store at The Range and they had draft tape along one of the decorating aisles,” she said.
Shanice used super glue to ensure the tape was securely attached to her walls before painting with Pebble Shore Silk from Levis.
She has the color “beautiful greige” throughout her house.
Nearly 2,000 people liked a photo of the completed hallway and praised her “brilliant job.”
“Completed paneling with draft tape, at $3 per pack it took about 8 packs?” Shanice said.
“It took me an hour to do. I sealed it and added some glue to harden it since it is a soft/foam material.
“But since I’m alone, I don’t have to carry too much weight, because there isn’t much ‘traffic’ coming through the hallway. Easiest thing ever!!!!!”
Impressed commenters revealed they were inspired to try out the ‘genius’ hack for themselves.
“Look so expensive now, what a transformation,” said one.
“Wow that looks beautiful, well done,” another commented.
Four cheap tricks for home renovation
You don’t have to spend a lot to give a room a new look. Here are five other home renovation tricks you can try.
Kitchen cabinets
One way to give your kitchen a complete transformation for less money is to change the look of the kitchen cabinets. There are many different vinyl claddings to choose from, and it’s a quick and easy way to update your home.
Handles
Another thing you can try that won’t break the bank is to change the handles. You can buy relatively cheap handles at hardware stores, or even at the thrift store. Adding new ones to your kitchen cabinets or doors in your home can be extremely effective.
Leftovers
Most of us have old, half-used paint cans in the garage, but they are often forgotten. However, there may be enough in the pot to paint a feature wall in another room, and you won’t have to spend a dime.
Free gifts
It’s worth checking your local Facebook Marketplace, or Freecycle, to see what other people are throwing away. As they say, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. And if someone is planning to give a room a new look, they may want to get rid of a sofa or a coffee table, which you can use to give a lounge a new look.
“Omg been wanting to do mine for so long. You have given me inspiration. Well done, it looks great,” said a third.
“What a fantastic idea, well done,” added another.
Shanice responded to a commenter who was curious about how she got perfect edges.
“I didn’t wrap them because it flattened the foam material!” she said.
“So I measured the little pieces and cut them out to make it straight.
“I added more super glue to these pieces to help mold them together a bit! I hope that makes sense.”
