However, there was only one upgrade available, which meant her husband and children had to stay in economy class.

“Did he agree to it?” Olivia asked Dr. Saleena’s husband.

“Someone has to sit with them, they are too young to sit on their own.”

“He wasn’t happy,” Dr. Saleena replied.

“There was really only one upgrade, but I thought, oh, screw it, I’m leaving.”

Dr. Saleena said that in her family dynamics, she is the one who organizes everything and packs the bags, so her husband has not made any effort to the holiday.

So she decided it was fair that she Nice relaxing holiday in business class while her husband looked after the children.

“Unfortunately I have to take him on vacation,” she joked.

She added that she believes children are truly “resilient” and are perfectly happy to sit in a “bad” economy seat for 10 hours.

“And men just fall asleep, so he doesn’t really care,” she said of her husband.

She added that she is the one who does most of the parenting, even when they are on vacation, so she definitely deserves a break on the plane.

How do you get a free upgrade to first class on a plane?

Travelers often wonder how to get an upgrade to first class without paying top dollar. According to one flight attendant, there are several strategies passengers can use to increase their chances. First, airline loyalty is key; frequent flyers and those with elite status are more likely to receive upgrades. Additionally, booking directly with the airline rather than through third-party sites can increase your chances, as can being flexible with your travel dates and times.

Dressing nicely and arriving early can also make a difference. While airlines typically prioritize upgrades based on status and fare class, a well-dressed passenger who checks in early can catch the attention of the airline staff. It’s also helpful to be polite and friendly to airline staff, as they have the authority to upgrade passengers at their discretion.

Finally, if you’re celebrating a special occasion, like a honeymoon or birthday, it doesn’t hurt to mention it. While it’s not guaranteed, some flight attendants may consider this when deciding on upgrades. In general, there’s no surefire way to get a free upgrade, but combining these strategies can certainly increase your chances.

Elsewhere in the podcast, Dr. Saleena shares that she encourages her husband to use her expensive skin care products because he didn’t take good care of his skin as a child.

“He’s the opposite of me, he’s a real sun worshipper,” she said.

“He loves the brown color and that’s really a thing now that he’s almost 40.”

Olivia said of her husband, footballer Bradley Dack: “Brad is a bit devastated, I need to take him back in.

“He’s always in the sun, playing football all day, without any sun protection.

“We want our partners to shine, not be dusty.”
