I’m a gardening expert – my £1 trick will keep rats far away from your garden
A gardening expert has revealed a simple trick to keep rats out of your garden.
Rats can be a real nuisance if they get into your home or garden, as they can spread serious diseases.
They often make a nest under patios, in sheds, greenhouses or compost heaps.
You may be tempted to use rat poison to get rid of the infestation, but this is toxic and can be dangerous to humans and other animals.
With this in mind, the horticultural experts at Primrose shared three natural ways to get rid of these critters.
Essential oils
According to experts, rats have one of the best senses of smell in the animal kingdom, so you can use this against them.

Rats especially dislike the smells of peppermint, lemongrass and eucalyptus.
So if you drip essential oils with these scents on the places where the rats have been, you will keep them away.
Chili Solution
Because rats have a strong sense of smell, they also hate the smell of pepper or other spicy things.
Therefore, you can make your own rat repellent using chilli flakes, which you can buy from the supermarket for around £1.
To make the repellent, simply mix chili flakes with water and heat the mixture so that the chili takes on its flavor.
Let it cool and strain out the chili flakes.
Pour the mixture into a plant sprayer and spray it on the areas where you are bothered by rats.
Eliminate food sources
Another simple trick to get rid of pests is to remove their food sources.
The specialists advised: “Compost bins are a treasure trove for rats.
