A gardening expert has shared a handy 60-cent tip that will help you get rid of moss on your patio for good.

Moss can be incredibly difficult to get rid of once it has spread. The spores are very persistent and nestle into surfaces. The moss will eventually grow back.

However, there is a simple way to prevent it from growing back.

An expert of Tenderness Plant Nursery has discovered that dish soap removes moss without the need for harsh chemicals.

They said: “One of the easiest methods for cleaning paving is with hot, soapy water.

“This works well for light stains on softer stones.”

Dish soap contains surfactants that break down and kill moss.

It’s also super cheap and can be bought in the supermarket for as little as 60p.

Moss needs to be constantly moist to survive. The dish soap dries out the moss, making it harder to survive.

Before trying this method, first remove any plants and garden furniture from the patio and sweep away any dirt.

Next, mix one part dish soap and one part water in a bucket.

Pour the mixture onto your patio and then scrub it clean with a garden brush.

Then rinse the terrace with clean, warm water and let it dry for 24 hours.

Make sure you use this method on a sunny day so the moss has a chance to dry.

You can also remove moss from your patio using white vinegar.

Delah Gomasi, director at cleaning company GirlForYou told The Express: “It’s basically as simple as spraying a mixture of 65 percent water and 35 percent vinegar on the areas where you want to remove the moss.”

How to repair broken patio tiles

The paving specialists at Simply Paving told Fabulous how to repair broken patio tiles without too much hassle.

The experts advised: “If you have a loose paving slab, it’s unlikely you’ll be able to lift it straight up by hand. Instead, you’ll likely need a hammer and chisel to pry the paving loose from your patio.

To remove loose tiles without damaging your tiles, carefully chisel away the mortar around the tile with the chisel and rubber mallet until the tile is completely loose.

“Then slide the shovel into the gap created by the mortar and pry the tile loose from the patio.

“As you lift the shovel, place a short piece of wood under the shovel. This will act as a lever, making it easier to do the job and protecting the slab underneath.

“When the paving starts to give, place the cylindrical wood underneath and roll the slab out of the patio.”

After applying the moss, wait a few days until it turns brown. Then remove the moss with a stiff brush.

Once the moss has been removed, spray your patio clean with a garden shed to ensure all excess moss has been removed.

Then let it dry before putting anything on it.

White vinegar is super cheap and can be bought from most supermarkets for as little as 69p.
