I’m a jeweler and there are six signs your partner wants you to pop the question
CHRISTMAS is fast approaching and many people may be wondering if they will be asked that all-important question before the year is out.
According to jewelry experts, there are a number of subtle signs that your partner wants you to get down on one knee.
Blake Asaad, founder of GOODSTONE, revealed six things to look out for that could indicate they want you to pop the question this holiday season.
Experts explained that traditionally the summer months and December are seen as the most popular times for someone to propose.
However, it can come at any time – and these tips can help you prepare for the moment your partner starts show signs that they are ready to take your relationship into the future next phase.
Blake said: “When it comes to knowing if your partner is ready for a proposal, the little things really matter. They may not tell you directly, but those subtle hints are often there.
“Maybe they started casually talking about future plans together, or you noticed them pausing a little while looking at engagement rings in a magazine or scrolling online.
“It’s those little moments, like sharing their thoughts on friends’ engagements or suddenly becoming more interested in wedding-related shows, that can be significant.
“If you do notice those clues, it’s important to take the time to find out what makes your partner tick.
“Are they drawn to something classic like a solitaire, or does a more unique, vintage-inspired design catch their eye?
“Understanding their style means more than just buying a ring: it shows that you pay attention to what makes them feel special.
“Ultimately, making the proposal personal and reflecting on your relationship will make the moment unforgettable.”
Your future together
The first sign that your partner might be ready for a proposal is when they imagine your life together.
This could mean they are talking about your long-term plans, future home ideas, or even family aspirations.
Blake explains: “Talking about the future is a strong signal that your partner sees you in it.
“That could be their way of saying they’re ready to take the next step.”
Comments on the involvement of others
Another subtle sign is that your partner can’t stop talking about the engagement story or rings from friends or celebrities.
They can imagine what their own proposal would look like by looking at what others have experienced.
Blake said, “If they point out rings they like, it’s a good idea to take notes.
“This could be an important hint not only about their readiness, but also about the style they are hoping for.”
Social media feeds
As they become increasingly interested in proposing, this may become visible on their social media feeds.
Keeping an eye on their Pinterest or saved Instagram posts can reveal a wealth of engagement ring designs.
Blake explains: “This is one of the clearest signals.
“Partners often put together a dream engagement board, filled with rings and styles they want Love.
“By paying attention to this, you can gain insight into their personal taste.”
The social media ‘no no’ for announcing your engagement
Social media users have revealed what makes them cringe the most when it comes to engagement announcements.
From cheesy captions to dirty fingernails, it looks like some loving couples need to pay a little more attention to their happy sayings.
A study by jeweler F.Hinds also found that poor quality photos and captions were big ‘no-nos’ when it came to sharing engagement news on the internet.
Shockingly, the research also found that 56 percent of social media posts in Britain were ‘unpopular’ among followers.
More than a fifth of those surveyed claimed that ‘unpolished and worn’ fingernails were their biggest pet hate – and put them off clicking the ‘Like’ button.
The cheesy captions were also an immediate downer.
Lines considered annoying by those surveyed included: “I can’t wait to marry my best friend,” “How happy am I?” and the Beyoncé-inspired “he put a ring on it.”
Other pet peeves included food-inspired backdrops, bridal magazines in pictures and the engagement ring that broke on the wrong hand.
However, the study wasn’t all doom and gloom when it came to happy couples. The respondents also said what they liked.
Social media ‘dos’ include: creative captions, interesting backgrounds, manicured nails, the happy couple in the picture and using the ‘Gingham’ filter on Instagram.
Wedding fever
If your partner suddenly becomes more interested in wedding ceremonies than before, he may be thinking about his own future wedding.
If your partner suddenly takes a noticeable interest in the details of weddings you attend together, it could be a sign that he or she is ready to propose.
Blake shared, “When partners start asking questions about locations, rings, or the flow of the ceremony, they can (not so) subtly hint that they are ready for their turn.”
Tips about calling preferences
If your partner suddenly shows a new interest in rings or specific jewelry styles, he may try to drop hints.
Talking to you about rings they like or rings they’ve seen in stores or online can be one of the most direct ways they communicate what they want.
Blake explains: “From classic solitaires to vintage-inspired designs, people often give clues about their dream ring long before they propose.
“If you pick up on these cues, it will be a lot easier to choose the right ring.”
They playfully brought up the subject of proposals
One way your partner can put a potential proposal to the test is by bringing up the subject in casual conversation.
Mentioning it – especially in a playful tone – could be their way of testing your response.
Blake said: “Partners sometimes come up with the idea of proposals to gauge your readiness.
“When this happens, it’s a good time to think about how you can make the moment as personal as possible.”
