A nursery school teacher has warned parents which shoes to avoid at the start of the school year.

Her advice, she explained, can help a child avoid pain and messes.

Reddit user Nintendo please the parenting tips shared in a post.

She said that for children, she prefers shoes that are easy to put on and take off.

“If your child is old enough to do it themselves, that’s even better,” she said.

The teacher said she wasn’t wearing jelly, flip-flops, or lace-up shoes.

“Jellies are super cute, but not ideal for wearing all day,” she explains.

“After a while they leave sore spots and that is uncomfortable for the child.”

Lace-up shoes, she added, are “distracting” and can be time-consuming.

“If you send them to preschool with laces, chances are they’ll spend the entire day untying them and then asking the teacher to re-tie them,” she said.

Flip-flops are inconvenient and can put children in physical danger, she noted.

“Your child wants to run. Make sure the shoes are ones they can run in and don’t try to send them in flip-flops,” she said.

The preschool teacher added that she approves of light-up shoes unless your child has trouble sleeping during nap time.

More unique options can help reduce confusion.

“Make sure your child recognizes his or her shoes,” she advised.

“Most teachers are good at this, but I have a mysterious pair of water shoes in my classroom that haven’t been picked up.”

“Chances are they’ve been stained, stepped on clay or jumped in mud, so don’t expect the shoes to come home in pristine condition.”

An extra tip is to send your children to school with a spare pair of socks for emergencies.

Experienced parents and educators shared additional tips to optimize footwear.

“If the shoes have laces, make sure they are flat and not round,” one commenter said.

“The round knots keep coming undone, even when double-knotted.”

“We have two worn-out pairs of sneakers that we send to school specifically because they fit well. They have velcro and he can run and jump in them,” said another.

“I don’t wear cute matching shoes or nice Vans for school days.”
