Is supermarket fashion the new shopping street?
Deputy Fashion Editor Abby McHale weighs in:
The supermarkets have really upped their game when it comes to their fashion lines. When you do your weekly shop these days, you can also pick up a selection of handbag-friendly, stylish pieces for the whole family.
Tesco has just announced a 0.7 per cent rise for the quarter thanks to ‘strong growth in clothing’ and M&S has earned the title of number one destination for women’s clothing on the high street.
Asda’s George clothing line has made £1.5m for the supermarket by 2023, 80 per cent of Sainsbury’s clothes are sold at full price rather than discounted, and Nutmeg sales at Morrisons are also up 2 per cent in the past year increased.
How come supermarket fashion is becoming so successful?
In addition to being actually affordable, the clothing is also of good quality, many of which are part of programs such as the Better Cotton Initiative.
Often they stick to classic pieces that they know will please the customer year after year.
And because they buy so much inventory, they can convert pieces quickly and buy them cheaper because of the volumes.
Rebecca then showed off a black long sleeve top, which costs £14, as she continued: “I found this little black top, it has ruffles and it’s a really nice ribbed quality.
“I thought this would be a great basic to wear under cardigans and jackets in the winter.”
The influencer was thrilled as she modeled a £22 chocolate brown jumper, as she said: “[I was] desperate for a nice chocolate brown sweater. I saw this and thought it was beautiful.
Fantastic fashion editor on fall trends
Do you want to look fantastic this season? Then listen…
Here, Fabulous’ fashion editor, Clemmie Fieldsend, says these are the top 5 trends from the hottest catwalk designers for Fall 2024.
BOHO: The boho revival is a much-needed breath of fresh air for autumn and means you can wear your sheer tops, girly dresses and big jeans with cool boots.
But if the clothes aren’t for you, think big accessories like sloppy tote bags, big earrings and bigger bracelets.
TEXTURE: Whether it’s smooth leather, lush faux fur or soft suede, textures are everywhere this season.
They add depth to your look, making you stand out and also look more expensive.
BURGUNDY: Maroon, oxblood, berry: whatever you call it in fashion, it’s red this fall.
The deep and rich color is everywhere and works best with shades of gray, black, dark blue and from head to toe.
LADY LIKE: Matching top and cardigan sets and pencil skirts sound dated, but they go hand in hand with being ladylike.
Pair with satin cami dresses and fitted blazers for an ultra-feminine look.
LEOPARD PRINT: According to Tagwalk, 75% of the runway this season was leopard print – a vast majority.
It crept its way into last season, but it’s widespread in autumn and all over the high street, whether it’s shoes or floor-sweeping jackets, it’s a must-have trend.
“It has a really nice cable knit and a higher neck to keep you super warm. It doesn’t itch even if it contains some wool.”
And to round off her pick, Rebecca tried on a £45 khaki teddy coat, as she explained: “I love this color combination. This teddy fabric is so soft.
“I absolutely love this look.”
FASHION FANS BEAM
The Instagram clip, which was posted under the username @stylingmetrebeccahas clearly left many with their mouths open as it quickly racked up 332,000 views.
