I’m a sleep expert: with these tips you can fall asleep in the cold without heating
As the weather gets colder, you may be thinking about how to make your home warmer without spending a lot of money on heating costs.
Luckily, experts have revealed some top tips for sleeping in the cold without paying a cent.
Sleep guru Dr. Daisy Mae provided expert advice Get started Beds for a good night’s sleep during the colder months.
She said: “The energy crisis that is currently happening in this country causing devastation to households everywhere.
“Not only does this create a huge amount of stress, but for many of us it also means some very cold nights lie ahead.”
“Combine these two things and you have a recipe for sleepless nights after sleepless nights.
“However, there are some things you can do to alleviate this and hopefully get the much-needed hours of sleep you need to function even when it’s cold.”

1. Wear the right clothes
Layering your sleepwear and bedding is a must to keep the warm air in and the cold air out.
Many thin layers are much better for keeping warm than one thick layer because the air is trapped between them.
Opt for cotton or wool bedding and sleepwear, and this is the best method to keep enough warm air in while keeping you comfortable.
Cotton helps your body retain heat.
Medical research has shown that wool bedding provides 25 percent more regenerative sleep than other bedding.
2. Hot baths and drinks
A Nice A warm bath about an hour before bedtime will raise your temperature nicely while relaxing the muscles.
Cooling down after a bath stimulates the production of the sleep hormone melatonin.
Your body temperature drops before you fall asleep.
But make sure the bath is not too hot, as this will only make you sweat.
Combine this with a warm drink as you get ready for bed, such as milk or a herbal tea without caffeine, and your body temperature should be just right when you plan to fall asleep.
3. Eliminate drafts
Make sure that all windows and doors are tightly closed and that air is not entering through the cracks around the structures.
Most people sleep well in well-ventilated areas, but strong drafts coming through unwanted areas can have a negative effect.
If it’s a matter of pushing a towel or an old sweater to the bottom of the door, then so be it.
Also take the time to check for air movement around baseboards, beams, or other fixtures or structures in your room.
4. Routine is key
We know it all too well when we get out of bed on a cold morning; it is one of life’s most difficult challenges.
But as the weather gets colder, sticking to your daily routine of getting in and out of bed at the same time every day will pay huge dividends when you’re trying to fall asleep.
Your circadian rhythm plays a crucial role in keeping your sleep cycle consistent, but this just doesn’t work if you think about getting out of bed a few hours longer than usual.
Bite the bullet in the morning and reap the rewards when you go back to bed at night.
5. Let the sun shine
It may not be sunny weather, but let the sun enter your bedroom as much as possible on every occasion.
After a full day of sun this will raise the temperature in your room and create a good heat base in the room for when it’s time to go to bed.
A small tip, but one that will be very useful in keeping your energy bill low.

Smart meters are a great way to keep control of your energy consumption, especially as they allow you to see where and when your gas and electricity are being used.
4. Consider changing energy supplier
No matter how satisfied you are with your current energy supplier, they may not give you the best deals, especially if you have let a fixed rate contract expire without taking out a new contract. If you haven’t looked at alternative rates lately, you might not know that there are better options out there.
