‘I’m afraid of him’: Penguin viewers are already worried about the fate of the Batman spin-off’s most likable character
We’re only two episodes in The penguinbut audiences of the hit series are already deeply concerned about the potential fate of its most endearing character.
The Batman spinoff has already proven that the Dark Knight isn’t necessary to become HBO’s latest TV hit, with viewers praising the tense and suspenseful filmScarface meet The sopranos‘ storyline, cinematography and the two leads – Colin Farrell and Cristin Milioti, who have particularly surprised fans as Oz Cobb and Sofia Falcone respectively.
But it is one of them The PenguiN’s main supporting characters dominating online discussions after episode 2 – titled ‘Inside Man’ – and not for good reasons. Viewers are indeed concerned about Victor Aguilar (played by Rhenzy Felix), the lackey of Oz, who has felt the wrath of his new boss several times during the HBO show’s initial entries.

With six exciting episodes left before the popular Max series ends, it’s highly unlikely that anything will happen to Victor; after all, there are plenty of other supporting characters who are more likely to bite the bullet than Oz’s right-hand man. But considering the show’s lead actor was ready to “stick a cap” into Victor’s skull after just ten minutes The penguin‘s first chapter, plus the fact that Victor is now working for one of the most unhinged and callous individuals in Gotham City, many fans are convinced he won’t make it to the end of this Batman-adjacent series.
A quick look at social media sites like Reddit and X/Twitter shows how concerned some people are about Victor. On Reddit, a Little Doober summed up the thoughts of many viewers, writing: “I’m scared for poor Vic though and think Oz might beat him in the end”. Their sentiments were shared by other users including kush125289who wrote: “Vic… [is] definitely die…”, and Types of kindnesswho opined, “I feel sorry for Vic. He’s going to get killed. I’d be shocked if he survived the entire season.”
Oz is not Victor’s friend. The sooner you realize that, the better. Vic works for Oz, that’s the extent of their relationship. Plus, Oz is a ticking time bomb. He can react rashly at any time. #ThePenguin pic.twitter.com/zZPBhscraUSeptember 30, 2024
However, there are some onlookers who think Victor might make it out alive. Geek-Haven888 is one of them, with the Redditor saying “he’ll either be dead by the end of the show or be a terrifying henchman.”
Cig_sg_disposable was more confident that Vic will survive, writing, “His goal is to become smarter on the streets and ultimately prove to Oz that he has what it takes to survive the politics of Gotham’s underworld”, while NitaraDaughter made another suggestion: “Even if he lives, he’ll most likely end up in Arkham because of everything Oz does to him.”
Like the aforementioned embedded tweets, plus post-episode 2 responses from other X/Twitter users like nkajoanofarc And truckershipIBut it seems most viewers are concerned about the prospect of Vic being killed. However, I suspect they’ll be happy to be proven wrong, if one of the most likable characters from the best Max shows lives to fight another day.
Penguin episodes 1 and 2 are available now on Max and HBO (US), Sky and Now TV (UK) and Binge (Australia).
