I’m an interior designer and earthy tones are perfect for an autumnal glow
SEPTEMBER is already in full swing, which means most of us are now looking for cozy autumn decorations.
As the nights get darker and temperatures drop, we’re all looking forward to being nice and warm at home.
So this is the perfect time to give your home an autumnal look.
Luckily, experts have revealed the top color trends for those looking to get their homes ready for the coming season.
Interior designers have revealed that natural and warm earth tones are the new top trend as they give homes a “refreshing autumnal vibe”.
Ali Edwards, Head of Design at Online Furniture Retailer MADEalso said that these shades are perfect because they “give off a warm, cozy vibe.”
This season is all about soft green hues, with Pinterest’s Fall Trends Report showing searches for “green home decor” up 2,670 percent.
Searches for ‘forest green house’ have also increased by 220 percent,
Ali explains that adding olive green to your interior should be a top priority if you want to give your home an autumnal glow.
They said, “A safe combination is an olive green paint, paired with accents of white, stone and other natural materials, to create a relaxing space that feels rooted in the natural environment.”
If you prefer a cozy atmosphere rather than a relaxing haven, warm, soft tones might be perfect for you.
Terracotta, peach, cream and soft orange tones are ideal for creating an earthy and calming environment.
Ali said: “Warm tones create a warm, cozy atmosphere.
“Rich terracotta or clay tones create a carefully curated mood, while lighter cream, peach and oatmeal shades offer a refreshing autumnal feel – making a room feel more spacious and airy.”
Ali says the colors have become more popular because homeowners increasingly prefer a natural aesthetic.
The expert explained that in 2024, people will embrace imperfections in their interiors.
In total, 83 percent of homeowners said they believe a home should be designed with natural elements in mind, rather than being “polished,” “perfect” and “refined.”
As interest in creating an earthy and calming environment in the home increases, so too has the popularity of ‘rattan furniture’ and ‘rattan’ in general.
Ali explains: “Rattan shows that it has a long life ahead of it as it has quickly become the new neutral colour in many people’s homes.
“It is so versatile that it can be combined with other pieces as easily as oak furniture and is the ideal way to add a tactile material to your living space, making it cosy and comfortable.”
Five tips to make your home cozy for fall on a budget
According to experts, giving your home an autumnal glow doesn’t have to cost a fortune.
Interior designers have revealed their top five tips for getting your home ready for the season ahead without spending a fortune.
Trend expert at Tapi Carpets and FloorsJohanna Constantinou shares her inspiration for how to get through the dark evenings.
From adding mood lighting to displaying favorite items and pumpkin-scented candles, there are some quick ways to create a cozy feeling without breaking the bank.
- Place candles in your home – Placing candles in your home creates a warm light, ideal for rainy autumn days.
- Add mood lighting with fairy lights – Opt for fairy lights in warmer tones to add a warm atmosphere to any room.
- Mixing textiles – Stocking up on blankets is a must! Adding textured pillows in warm, neutral tones will make it feel even more welcoming.
- Add lots of plants – When it comes to natural decorations, plants are a must-have. Not only do they improve the air quality in your home, but they also add a touch of greenery and a homely feel to any space.
- Decorate your walls with photos – Add your own photos and paintings to your gallery. If you want to add picture frames, look at inexpensive wooden options.
If you’re looking to add a touch of rattan to your home, Ali shows you how to combine it with the most beautiful autumn colours.
They said: “To embrace rattan’s 70s roots, opt for chairs, coffee tables or dining sets in that style and dress them up with softer accents, like velvet cushions or a boucle throw.
“These larger pieces are also perfectly complemented by colours like terracotta, butter yellow and olive green tones, or deep coffee tones.
“When it comes to accessorizing larger pieces, opt for bold shapes in solid colors to avoid the area looking cluttered, and try using a range of different heights and playful shapes to create depth.”
“If you live in a furnished home or are unable to replace your larger furniture, there are still ways to embrace the rattan trend by introducing smaller interior elements.
“Lighting is a great way to embrace rattan, as it often affects the entire room by spreading delicate patterns of light throughout the space.”
